If it still fits, why would you buy new?

Amicompletelyinsane · 22/07/2020 10:31

I only replace things that are worn out or don't fit. Seems wasteful to buy new if they haven't outgrown the old one

slis · 22/07/2020 10:34

So they have a fresh new one its my issue when I was at school I had to wear ripped worn hand me down do im bow a bit fussy with uniforms

Apart from when changing school, and you therefore need all new, i have only ever bought uniform when some of it needs replacing. And if that happens shortly before the end of the school year, then they have to live with the scruff/stain.

We're simply not rich enough to do that sort of thing routinely (and even when we are flush I can think of hundreds of other things to spend on rather than replacing clothes that don't need replacing)

BikeRunSki · 22/07/2020 10:34

I only replace what’s worn out or outgrown.
DD gets DS’s hand me downs. I keep most things except for stained white shirts.

LoisLittsLover · 22/07/2020 10:34

Dd has outgrown hers so I have passed on to someone in the year below. Logo jumpers are still fitting here though so I have kept those to use again. I have only bought a limited amount until I know more about their plans and will do more frequent washes if necessary

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/07/2020 10:38

I only ever replace when outgrown or ruined. Pass down what I can.

One DD had new shoes at February half term. I've my fingers crossed they still fit!

slis · 22/07/2020 10:39

I'm not flush with money at all i buy in bit so by the time September is here I have all new uniform buying for 3 different schools is a nightmare and every year it cost more I just wanted to know if other reused uniform. One of the blazers has a stain on the inside pen stain but on the outside in perfect condition would you reuse or buy new

I’ve just bought all the uniform I for my 3 DC.
DS1 is off to high school so he needed new anyway and the other 2 have grown over lockdown.
M&S have 20% off school uniform so it seemed prudent to stock up now even if it’s not needed just yet.

Both the high school and primary have said it’s full uniform from September on advice of the LEA.

Needtobepositive · 22/07/2020 10:40

If they fit and are in good condition why on earth replace them? Think of the cost and the waste of resources. One of mine is starting secondary so needs all new uniform but the other two are still in primary and it all still fits (apart from shoes) so won’t be buying them new stuff. Will prob need to buy my eldest primary child some new bits by the new year and then my youngest will fit into her hand me downs (so long as they are in good condition). Please don’t fork out for new stuff until you need it.

RedCatBlueCat · 22/07/2020 10:40

If it's in good condition, and fits, it's good to go.
DS1 needs everything new, as he's changing school. Only his shoes still fit, but they wont meet the uniform criteria Angry
DS2 has everything still fitting, except shoes. I will only buy him shoes.

newphoneswhodis · 22/07/2020 10:41

You could sell them on a local fb site to fund new if they are good condition

Ceara · 22/07/2020 10:41

Unless changing school, I buy the next size up at whatever random time M&S have a 25% off school uniform week, and I stick it in the back of the cupboard. It is brought out and when he's outgrown the previous size . Whenever that happens to be. It's rarely September.

Lockdownseperation · 22/07/2020 10:42

I’m an ex secondary school teacher. Very few yr11s get new blazers.

GreyishDays · 22/07/2020 10:42

Pen stain on the inside is fine. Smile

PotteringAlong · 22/07/2020 10:43

I would reuse the blazer. I use school uniform until it falls apart.

LemonBreeland · 22/07/2020 10:43

I'm in Scotland and mine are going back in less than 3 weeks.

I've only replaced what was absolutely necessary. DS2 isn't even getting new shoes as his still fit. Last years clothes are in good condition because it wasn't worn for half the year. And they still fit so not being replaced yet.

I am loathe to buy too much in case school closes, or partially closes in winter.

Needtobepositive · 22/07/2020 10:43

Reuse the blazer! I would reuse even if the stain was on outside if it was small. Those things cost a fortune. Really no need to replace.

slis · 22/07/2020 10:45

Thanks just wanted to know what other do its just about the secondary school I know how terns can be 🙄

Sirzy · 22/07/2020 10:45

I never get the mentality of needing to replace them just because it’s a certain date.

I replace things as they are outgrown or when they become way too scruffy to wear. Ds grows slowly so some of his trousers are 3/4 years old

slis · 22/07/2020 10:45

BogRollBOGOF · 22/07/2020 10:45

I didn't replace white polo shirts last year and it's a safe bet that DS1 will have grown out of them. (Good call as they've not been worn since March)

Shoes normally need upgrading.

DS2's trousers are probably going short.
DS1 gets years out of shorts and never wears trousers.

I buy token sweatshirts second hand as both DCs don't wear them.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/07/2020 10:46

Def don't just bin clothes that fit and in good condition just because you can. There's a world of difference in wearing something torn like you did and wearing something that's been lay Yr. Hot would anyone even know?

slis · 22/07/2020 10:48

there is a charity near me that take school uniforms I always give to them so they do get more use out of them

OP posts:
Newdaynewname1 · 22/07/2020 10:49

Why would I? we also hand uniform
down, so youngest will start with pretty much exclusively pre-worn uniform
