Opinions on orange walls - Yay or nay?

What do you think about very pale floors and white features but medium orange walls for a fairly open plan living room? To create a warm, cozy, happy vibe?

Like not super bright orange.

This kind of thing:

That is the exact shade of orange we had on a wall in the living room in 1972.
So it's a yes from me for purely nostalgic reasons.

Ginfordinner · 21/07/2020 17:23

No. I just don't like orange as a colour, at all.

HeronLanyon · 21/07/2020 17:29

I like it. Looks 60s to me. It’s also a colour used quite a bit in parts of the States where there is much less use of white everywhere and more use of colour.
Think for my taste and art it would need to be quite a bit deeper and a bit darker.

I think that is why I don't like it Grin

I love orange - absolutely love it. But I lived in a rented flat once with orange walls and, believe me, it is hard to live with. Think you'd be better going for stone coloured walls with some bright orange accents here or there - eg curtains, cushions, a vase etc.

Howmanysleepsnow · 21/07/2020 17:55

Not my favourite colour but... Dutch Orange could work (top left), especially with cushions in a green, orange and blue like those next to it in this picture and a grey/brown sofa.

Just no.

PicsInRed · 21/07/2020 18:03

Nay like a horse. NAY.

Therollockingrogue · 21/07/2020 18:34

@ fairydustandpixies omg so it’s true Shock

Cruddles · 21/07/2020 18:39

@IncrediblySadToo

No, it's dated.

It's a pumpkin/squash colour

If you're going to go orange, go ORANGE

We had a feature wall in that orange. We also have an orange fridge and light shades. In the end it was a bit much so we wall papered it will a sky blue background with arty looking orange fox pattern. So still got orange but a bit calmer
JaJaDingDong · 21/07/2020 18:50

Maybe one feature wall, in the right orange.

MsEllany · 21/07/2020 19:00

I love orange. Not keen on the photo you’ve posted though.

With dark wood floors and lots of flowers and plants (bit tropical) it would be lovely.

Dutch Orange could work (top left) so....yellow?! Grin

VanillaSpiceCandle · 21/07/2020 19:33

Yes definitely! I think a really bright white and would work well. I want to paint my door a bright, true orange but struggling to find a colour that’s not too red. An orange living room would be nice in summer or winter. Go for it!

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 21/07/2020 19:35

I think if you like it go for it. I know a friend that had an orange wall and it just made me think of Halloween every time I saw it.

Aquamarine1029 · 21/07/2020 19:37

I hate it so so much.

DelphiniumBlue · 21/07/2020 19:40

I like it. But I'd have more pattern, and other colours too.
I really don't like grey/beige/neutrals for decorating. Have colour if you want, whether it's on trend or not.

BackwardsGoing · 21/07/2020 19:45

Yes from me! I had an orange bedroom and it was fab. But I'd go for a slightly warmer tone.

RonnieBob · 21/07/2020 19:47

Nay. Don’t like that

Voltan123 · 22/07/2020 10:52

Thanks everyone so far

KeepingPlain · 22/07/2020 10:56

I'm clearly weird, I like that. Grin

Bluntness100 · 22/07/2020 12:03

I think orange is just a very marmite colour, you don’t see many people wearing it, or buying things in it, or decorating with it, because many just don’t like it. The easy jet phenomenon didn’t help, because it looked shit, so put people off even more, no one wanted to look like they worked for easy jet or their home was a homage to them,

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/07/2020 12:11

Oh dh wants a room painted in charlottes locks but every time I say fine do it he back tracks.

It reminds me of the 1970’s when they used it against blue or brown 🤮🤮🤮

I’ve done him an orange hanging basket to cheer him up. I hate that basket it looked better last year in white 🤨

BearSoFair · 22/07/2020 13:21

No. Like a PP orange is one of my favourite colours but I've never found a shade I think would work for painting a room. Nothing like the shade you posted but I'll never forget when DS1 had a bright (BRIGHT) orange room for a while when he was younger, you could see the glow from outside the door Grin After a few months he admitted it felt like '"sleeping in a Sainsbury's bag"

Pinkyandthebrainz · 22/07/2020 13:41

I prefer bright orange or coral personally.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 22/07/2020 13:42

@Fluffycloudland77 that colour from F&B is gorgeous!
