Nurses to get 4.4%pay rise.

crosser62 · 21/07/2020 06:51

I’ve calculated that this will equate to an extra £90 a month for me after tax.
That will cover my monthly parking fees at work then.
What’s the fucking point?

4.4% is surely a good raise though? More than most will be getting.

The car parking is a different issue and I agree you shouldn't have to pay to park at work (albeit lots of other people in lots of other sectors, mine included) do have to pay. Its a hard one to fix because no doubt they're is not a lot of space around your average hospital to build new car park, or multi storey.

hayfeverhellish · 21/07/2020 06:55

This the pay rise all banded NHS workers were already getting (the 3 year pay deal which the last year of rise is in April 2021). There's nothing new for us!

Teachers, doctors, dentists etc are getting a new pay rise.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 21/07/2020 06:57

So that's roughly £1.6k gross increase per annum, on a starting salary of £36k? (Taking 20% tax and 12% NI into account.) That increase will also be pensionable, which is an added benefit.

4.4% is a lot more than many others are getting right now. Many people are under threat of redundancy, or have lost their jobs already. Nurses do deserve better pay and conditions, but I'm not sure I'd complain too loudly in the current climate.

Where did you get this info from it said on GMTV nurses not getting anything after your 'raise in 2018. No review for nurses till 2021. Some doctors and some teachers getting this announced rise.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 21/07/2020 06:58

And I agree the parking is a separate issue.

snappycamper · 21/07/2020 06:58

It's 3.4% more than I'll be getting in my public sector job.
Hmm

Marmite27 · 21/07/2020 06:58

More than what most people are getting.

I presume you already pay for parking? If your rise now covers your parking, then you are getting an extra £90 Hmm

All these woe is me, I’m not getting a huge rise moans are a bit much tbh.

hayfeverhellish · 21/07/2020 06:58

Just to say again - it's not a new pay rise - it's the one we were already getting!

cuntryclub · 21/07/2020 06:58

Well your car parking fees and could react are not related so I do t know why you mention them. However if you want to be that kind of thinker your fees will be covered by your pay rise which will leave you an extra £90 on your pocket that you would have been paying out for your fees prior to the rise.

I don't think it's a bad raise at all tbh.

Offredismysister · 21/07/2020 06:59

Nurses aren’t getting it though are they?

What I’ve just read says ‘nurses aren’t covered by the latest rises, but many of them will get a 4.4% rise later this year’

Who are the many & when will they get it? What’s the criteria?

I think it’s just those that have hit the increment as part of the 3 year pay deal. Doesn’t surprise me.

cuntryclub · 21/07/2020 06:59

Car parking fees and CONTRACT Blush

Tinamou · 21/07/2020 06:59

That's significantly above inflation which is below 1% at the moment.

beelzeboob · 21/07/2020 07:00

OP - as a fellow healthcare worker, now is not the time to complain about a pay rise when thousands are out of work with an uncertain future.

hayfeverhellish · 21/07/2020 07:01

@ReceptacleForTheRespectable off topic a bit but what nurses start on 36K!? That's band 7 and a ward manager / specialist level.

KnobChops · 21/07/2020 07:02

This!! And only some nurses. I’m a nurse and will be getting 1% as have been at top of my pay band for 12 years. Most years I get nothing.

The 4% was because the government removes some of the incremental points so that junior nurses moved through pay bands more rapidly. Once you’ve done that you get stuck on a decade or more of no or 1% max increases. This was the pay negotiation from a couple of years ago that the unions were duped into accepting.

What she said. Read the fucking detail op.
Luddite26 · 21/07/2020 07:04

Which nurses are on a starting salary of 36k?

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 21/07/2020 07:05

ReceptacleForTheRespectableoff topic a bit but what nurses start on 36K!? That's band 7 and a ward manager / specialist level

In order for the rise to equate to £90 a month, the OP must already by on £36k (it's easy to calculate from the info given).

When I said "starting salary" I didn't mean a newly qualified nurse's starting salary - I meant the salary the OP is currently on.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 21/07/2020 07:07

£36k x 4.4% = £1,584
£1.584 - 20% tax and 12% NI = £1,077
£1,077 ÷ 12 months = £90

That is what was meant by £36k being the starting salary, i.e. the starting point for the OP.

mellowgreenspring · 21/07/2020 07:07

It's also 3.4% more than the 3 million excluded tax payers who got absolutely jack shit from the government. While they dished out furlough and self employed grants and bonuses to their big corporate mates.

Fr0gChorus · 21/07/2020 07:09

I bet TAs get a big fat nothing. They don’t seem to have been mentioned. Even though they’re on minimum wage, have been in throughout and completely gone above and beyond in their roles by taking on much of the daily cleaning, teaching where needs be, care in bubbles etc.Angry

Ffhe29 · 21/07/2020 07:10

Yes I don't think we're getting anything but the final third of the deal that was promised 3 years ago. Although I wouldn't put it past the Tories to dress it up as an entirely separate one Hmm

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 21/07/2020 07:11

It is the final third of the deal for all A4C workers.

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 21/07/2020 07:12

Rise only for medical and dental staff not those on AFC. So unless you're a doctor, OP, you wont be getting any extra help with the parking costs.

JoleneExotic · 21/07/2020 07:12

Higher than the 0% pay rise a lot of private companies are giving this year! 4.4% is above inflation? If it's the cost of living rise that's good?
