Weather in the south east

Every time I watch the weather forecast I am green with envy at the weather in the south east - it's always so good, or at least very warm. I don't think it's been 20 degrees where I live for weeks but down there it's very rarely below that.

I have no desire to live in London. But that weather! It's almost tempting. This thread is just I am jealous.

that should say "just to say I am jealous"

Non-London South East here! It is lovely weather at the moment, and I'm nearer to Gatwick airport than London.

Are you close enough for a day trip if you're considering a move in the future? Some lovely areas and great villages around here

Most summers it's unbearably hot

I'm in West Cumbria so a long way to come for the day! It's a very beautiful place to live, but I would kill for a good spell decent weather. We had some during lockdown but that feels like a long time ago now.

For example, I went for a run on Friday. There was pouring rain, I was wearing a hat, gloves and waterproof. In July.

Moved to the UK from abroad a couple of years ago dreading the weather but relocated to the south east and yes the weather is lovely. I grew up in the north of England and it is noticeably so much better. My parents always say it feels several degrees warmer when they come down from up north.

We did have a few very hot days last summer. I lived in Australia for many years though so am used to the heat and love it.

Ginfordinner · 20/07/2020 07:20

I know what you mean OP. I live on the edge of the Pennines, and it is always cooler and damper here than in the South East. No desire to move there though. My life is here.

It's been nice so far this year, warm but not too hot, and a reasonable amount of rain.

KatherineJaneway · 20/07/2020 07:23

This year it has not been that good, lots and lots of rain compared to other years. It was 27 on Saturday then it was dark clouds and rain yesterday.

QuiteCleanBandit2020 · 20/07/2020 07:23

I live SE and love it.
Lived up North for a while and it was utterly miserable.
Sheets of rain constantly.I lived in an anorak.
Even when it didn't rain it wasn't the lovely bone warming warmth you get in the South.
Here I look forward to a good rain but having lovely warm sunny days is so good for the soul!
Ps the vast majority of the SE isn't London!

I am watching BBC breakfast at the mo. There's a feature about litter picking on Brighton beach. It looks like fucking Spain. Just proves my point :)

It can be awful though, the heatwave two years ago was horrendous.

Mumtumwobble · 20/07/2020 07:31

OP I know exactly what you mean. My mum lives on the south coast and I’m in the NW. when I spoke to her on Saturday we’d been out for a very rainy walk with with the kids but she’d been sitting in the garden wearing a sundress. I like everything about where I live apart from the weather.

whenwillthemadnessend · 20/07/2020 07:33

June was awful. Rain rain rain. But it's generally warmer. Too warm sometimes Grin

KitchenDancefloor · 20/07/2020 07:37

If you have lived in the SE it ruins the rest of the country for you. I have lived in different parts of the UK and it is definitely warmer and drier here. I couldn't move further north again, I like the warmth.

It's too crowded though. Especially anywhere outdoors and beautiful during lockdown. A damp northern moor had its appeal then.
