Where to get advice about computer games?

So my kids keep asking questions about mods and updates for the games they have, and google doesn’t have a clue. Is there a place I can go and ask people in the know so I can actually help them with their games?

I feel like I need a community of teenage gamers for advice.

Depends on the game. Do you mean PC or console games?

BlueCookieMonster · 19/07/2020 14:13

Urm console mainly, we have a switch and ps4

Do you have a subscription to PS+ so you can play PlayStation games online? The PlayStation store has all of the updates. Mods tend to be for PC games but if there's a mod for PS it will be there

Just do a google search of how to use mods for whatever game it is. There are loads of forums, videos and blogs with details of how to use and which ones. As always, be careful where you download from as some can cause lag and other problems. Always go for the ones with a good many users and favourable reviews

Console games should update automatically. You can't really do mods on consoles. You can do a lot more on PCs.

My son's PS is set up so it prompts him when a new update is available

Subscribe to channels of fans for the relevant games on social media.

And you can google the name of the game, console (if necessary) and what you're after (e.g. "Zelda botw updates", *Pokemon Sword How to get to Route 10", etc).

And if you want to know what's in an update, the phrase "release notes" can help.

MrsSnitchnose · 19/07/2020 14:21

Sorry, just read your post properly about you already trying google Blush I've always found everything I need from there. Which games are they that they're asking about so I can see if I can find anything?

Even better is if you get your children to read the release notes so they get the reading practice in GrinWink

The forum for the game itself might be a good option but it depends a lot on the game. Some games have great communities willing to help. Other games, generally popular competitive multiplier games, have extremely nasty toxic communities and you're more likely to get either insults or malicious instructions. And it's hard to know which unless you already know the game and its community.
