Low grade fever for weeks - anyone had this?

I’m going to contact the doctor on Monday but just wondering if anyone else has had this?

A couple of weeks ago I thought I might have COVID as I’d had a low grade fever for a week (37.5 - 38.2).

I still have it - right now my temp is 38.3, so it’s been over 3 weeks

I don’t have any new symptoms aside from the fever - I have ME and endometriosis and generally feel quite crappy anyway but don’t feel any worse than normal. No sign of a virus or infection.

I thought maybe it was just the thermometer but tested it on DH and his is normal. I do feel feverish though much of the time.

What could even cause this if not an infection?

I will be contacting the doctors but I don’t feel so unwell I need to be seen urgently, I just want to know what’s going on!

Call Gp and ask to be referred to rheumatology

I've had a 38.5 temp for 8 months

I had it for about a month earlier this year after I had a very bad cold and cough, never went above 37.8 but every evening would go to 37.3/4/5 and I'd feel feverish. My usual temp is 36.7.

I've no idea if I had Covid or some other virus - in the end I got antibiotics for what seemed to be tonsillitis starting, and they got rid of it. It was really weird.

Sorry I'm unclear... Did you get tested for covid 19?

I had this for about three weeks, along with total exhaustion, muscle and joint pain. It eased but remained /remains as a post viral fatigue thing 3 months later. I’m convinced it was Covid.

You probably need some bloods doing to check your full blood count and inflammatory markers. Might not be an infection.

Thanks all - maybe it is COVID. I didn’t get a test, by the time I even considered it might be that I’d already had the fever for nearly a week. Just didn’t occur to me as I felt normal. At first I thought it was hot flushes (my hormones can be a bit weird and this is common leading up to my period but they don’t actually cause a rise in temp).

You have symptoms so can order a COVID test

I will definitely ask for a blood test just to be safe - probably worth doing at this point but I doubt it’s anything serious

Yes completely - haven’t been anywhere at all for well over a month (before that just to corner shop)

Is this post for real. You’ve had one of the main symptoms and haven’t thought to get tested. I hope you’ve been self isolating as this is exactly how it spreads if not. Book a test tonight.

You need to take a test within 5 days of symptoms starting. And yes we have been self isolating - DH works from home anyway, we’ve had food deliveries, our twins haven’t been to nursery, we haven’t been anywhere.

I'd order a home test to rule it out as negative. In the current climate itll likely be one of the first things your GP will look at anyway so you may as well get that over and done with for yourself so that you can move onto other possibilities when you have your appointment.

I really thought it wasn’t worth doing as the site is so explicit that if it’s day 6 or later there’s no point doing it. Could it actually pick something up after 3 weeks?

I don’t think some people understand what it’s like when you have chronic health issues - it’s not unusual for me to be fatigued or feel flushed or run down. It was only when it had been going on several days already that I realised it might actually be something else.

Our twins stopped going to nursery as soon as things kicked off in March and haven’t been back. DH was going to the supermarket and an occasional walk to the corner shop but otherwise we’ve been at home - we’ve been getting food deliveries for 7 weeks now so haven’t had to go anywhere. So even if I have had it, I haven’t exposed anyone except my immediate household (and they have all been fine), and have been isolating longer than the 14 days since symptoms started anyway.

I'm on week 3 of this now, ordered a test on day 1 which was negative. We're an extremely vulnerable family so have been and will continue to isolate anyway.

I had a GP appointment this week and have antibiotics in case there's an infection somewhere.

I'm still not convinced it's not covid.

FWIW I think it'll be negative but I do think its worth ruling it out as ruling it out is one of the first things the GP will do so if you can arrive at your appointment having already ruled it out you can skip straight to investigating the actual problem. If that makes sense?

There's no point in testing after weeks of symptoms

Could you get an antibody test or check with GP to see if it might be after effects? Speak to GP anyway & good luck

I had all the Covid symptoms in March including pneumonia, couldnt have a test then as you had to be famous or royalty. Ive had muscle pain, tiredness and a low grade fever ever since. Even today Im 37.5 and that's 4 months later.

That sounds awful well I’m sorry you are still feeling so dreadful. Sounds very much like the ME symptoms I have and I know how rough it is.

I suppose it could be COVID. I thought it was really unlikely due to the very limited exposure to other people we’ve had and the low rates in our county but not impossible I guess.

There are no antibody tests according to the NHS site - just went through the test ordering form and it is very clear that i would be wasting a test which feels wrong so I’ll speak to the GP first. If they think it’s worth doing I’ll get one but I suspect not.
