Clary Sage-Terrified

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could give me some reassurance. I am 4 weeks and accidentally used a heat protecting hair spray that has clary sage oil as one of the ingredients, which I guess causes miscarriages. It was mostly on my hair but some sprayed on my ears/face/neck. I washed my hair, but it was in my hair a short while before I realized (just happened to glance at the back of the bottle...thought I screened it before and somehow missed that when I bought it)

Called my OB in a panic, she said she wasn't too concerned and thinks risk is low. I am still worried. First pregnancy and anxiety is high right now. Just looking for some positivity and reassurance. Thanks.

It sounds like it was a pretty tiny amount, and you washed it away quickly. So even if clary sage oil did cause miscarriage, it doesn't sound like you got very much of a dose.

The link between clary sage and miscarriage is also actually far from proven (incomplete research done on a rat, the results of which were blown out of proportion by tabloid journos) and the link may well actually be total nonsense.

Also, if causing miscarriage was as simple as a spritz of a particular oil, then surely women with unwanted pregnancies who are unable to obtain a legal abortion would be making use of the stuff? But they're not. Ergo, it almost certainly doesn't do anything.

I hope that makes you feel a little bit easier.
