GoFundMe?

I saw crowdfunding mentioned on a thread tonight and Googled it. GoFundMe came up, but I have a few questions about it, and also, would love to hear your experiences of it. Is it free like they say it is? Have you tried it before and did it work?
I would need to raise 3-5k.

Not used it but know several people that have. What are your questions?

The donor can pay the GFM platform fee if they choose that you shouldn’t have to. If they don’t, you have to - GFM will deduct it from your collection.

You don’t have to communicate with the donors.

The two people I know of in receipt of funds haven’t had to pay tax but I suggest you get specific advice on this as it would be individual to you.

which is why I very rarely donate to crowdfunders. Charity donations go as direct debits.

I think peoples experience of it completely depends on the cause/what they're asking for donations for. Some things are very frowned upon.

What would you be raising it for? Good donor communication tends to be quite important
