Good times!
And such different times.
I'm feeling a mix of anxiety (so many people all too close together!) and wistfulness watching the opening ceremony.

I wasn't bothered about it but the ceremony really was something special, I remember been so impressed and the James bond and the Queen stunt was incredible. It doesn't feel like 8 years ago at all, time does fly

As a horse rider, Charlotte Dujardins gold medal freestyle set to Land of Hope and Glory will always be my favourite moment. Makes me cry everytime I watch it

It was brilliant! We live within walking distance of the Olympic park, which is now a wonderful green space where there was once very polluted post-industrial wasteland. And to the pp saying the legacy was wasted, in my very deprived borough it has funded years of sport and fitness activities for older people, for a start.

I was quite cynical about the whole thing, didn’t apply for tickets in the initial flurry and wasn’t overly bothered, but then got totally swept up in it all - it was an amazing time. And I ended up with two sets of athletics tickets - the sessions with the men’s 100m and 200m finals! Were two of my best evenings ever- totally amazing

Have such great memories ds was only 4 and totally obsessed by Usain Bolt. We went to see a few events and cheered on the flame when it passed by. We watched the opening on a big screen at Blackheath it was such a great atmosphere London was absolutely buzzing. I cried a few tears I felt so proud it was great for the whole country

It was utterly wonderful, I'd go back to the opening ceremony on that night in a heartbeat and live every minute of it again ❤️

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 19/07/2020 22:16

Artesia wow what a night that must have been. We watched that at the big screen in Hyde Park everyone went crazy (most un British)

I’m sure an MumsNetters daughter handed Usain Bolt a towel or drink something like that understandably she was very proud

The Queen parachuting tops it all Smile

Great to hear from those who were involved!

It was incredible, I had ticket for one Olympic and a couple of Paralympic events. Had just started my first graduate job close enough to London to visit for the day. Once I saw the opening ceremony I was so grateful to have them as people went nuts for tickets.

Seems a lifetime ago Sad

Best time of my life! I was living and working in London and the atmosphere was incredible.

VERY happy memories.

A year later I had my DS.

GREAT times

We add rewatching the games at the moment. Me and DH were GIDDY watching it. DH cried at the opening ceremony. Only about the 4th time I’ve seen him cry in 8 years. Very bittersweet.

I finally got round to watching the opening ceremony last night, it made me cry again! I loved how the Olympic flame was lit.

I went to see Foo Fighters at the Olympic stadium a few years ago and loved walking around the park. You don’t realise just how far Greg Rutherfords winning jump is until you see it marked out on the ground! If I’m ever back in London (I live in Scotland) I’d love to go back to walk round the whole thing and see what else is there.
