Did you (recently) or your dc take to pass?

One of the websites says that the average is 47 hours and I am fainting at the price. Dd1 is nearly 17...

My DP is a driving instructor he usually says 40 hours. Younger people usually learn quicker and that can be reduced if they have access to a car to practice with parents. Best to add they after about 10 hrs tuition when they should have good control of the car.
Lessons now are very different to 20/30 years ago much more structure each one focused on an area controls/left turns/ roundabouts etc. Look on facebook, trust pilot for recommendations.
Examiners have an assessment every 2/3 years so you can ask what rating they got in that.
It seems alot of money for lessons I get that but my DP isn't some kind of millionaire. The cost of insurance, petrol, his franchise mean he only earns £10-12 an hr and ppl cancel lessons and dont pay, he works evenings, weekends is self employed so no holi/sick pay. But he loves it and it is flexible sohe can do school pick up or watch school assemblies etc

I'm on the younger side of my twenties and it took me 35 hours and I was hopeless when I first started. In my opinion it's all about the instructor, you need to do your research and find a good one. I had friends who had spent 80+ hours and never passed, then did 10-15 with another instructor and pass.

I learnt 14 years ago, my instructor was brilliant and I did it in 14. It just depends how they take to it.
