I think I spent most of yesterday in bed cos I just couldn't deal with going out of the house - DH did the school runs etc as I hit the point of continual panic attacks (masks have been the catalyst for the real sink of mental health which was already in a massive decline).

Like someone mentioned earlier - I'd tried to stay away from the NHS for as long as possible so my mental health is really in the shitter now.

Took the kids to the park earlier - they had a whale of a time with some of the lads from DD1's class there and absolutely no social distancing while they all piled onto the roundabout at breakneck speed together. Now DH and DD1 are having a Smash Bros battle together.

@ButterMeCrumpets

I love gooseberries but only when they are hard and sour. Really disappointed with the ones from the supermarket as they were soft and ripe Sad
Made me shiver just the read that. Can't stand sour fruit.
countrygirl99 · 18/07/2020 19:04

Love Rightmove and On The Market. Its prep for when my lottery ticket comes up. I look at the equestrian properties. There's one in Wiltshire I fancy at the moment

DominaShantotto · 18/07/2020 19:07

I just look for somewhere not near my neighbour!

ImOnTheWrongPlanet · 18/07/2020 19:11

I like looking at the ones by the sea.

TheOrchidKiller · 18/07/2020 19:15

I've found houses we holidayed in as a child, houses I went to student parties in, houses I've lived in, and just houses I've walked past and wondered what they're like inside.

I also have a thing for Urban Exploration sites like 28 Days Later. I don't have the guts to visit abandoned, decaying buildings myself but the photos bring out a mix of curiosity and revulsion. I've found some old workplaces on there. Fascinating stuff.

BogRollBOGOF · 18/07/2020 19:46

I've just watched the Olympic Opening Ceremony from 2012 and it was so joyful to watch. I got through a few tissues as I just found it emotional to watch. All that exuberence and optomism.
I had a postitive pregnancy test for DS2 a week later Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 18/07/2020 20:00

Had a letter today from school asking me to pay for music lessons next year, even though it may be online. It is quite expensive and part of their GCSE. I can't afford it. He has not been engaging since the lessons stopped in March and still been asked to pay for them.

it doesn't look like he will pass music now so not sure what to do. I guess I need to speak to them but on holidays now. It says they will have them 'in some form' but the costs are still the same.

AgentCooper · 18/07/2020 20:20

We took DS to Dean Castle Country Park in Kilmarnock today and it was lovely. Not a mask in sight. We’d only been to local parks recently (Glasgow) and there were always folk with masks on, even though there was plenty of open space. People do what they have to do, obviously, but seeing that always made me feel a bit grim.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/07/2020 20:23

I don't really understand why people wear masks out in the wild.

AgentCooper · 18/07/2020 20:23

@DominaShantotto I’m so sorry you’re struggling so much. Just offering a hand to hold as my mental health has been utterly fucked by this shite too. Worst year for many years.

Keep on truckin’ my friend. There’ll be an end to this. Don’t let the bastards grind you down Flowers

torydeathdrug · 18/07/2020 20:25

bad - bloody kids (dd2 & ds2) had an actual fight today which resulted in a tooth being knocked out. I am very cross.

good - ds1 has agreed to go to my mum's for a few hours on Wednesday. If he manages it that will be the first time he's willingly left the house since February.

AgentCooper · 18/07/2020 20:26

@Orangeblossom78

I don't really understand why people wear masks out in the wild.
@Orangeblossom78 I think it’s mainly so people can see them doing it. There’s an expression in French, if someone is described as ‘m’as tu vu?’ it means they’re just desperate to be seen doing whatever it is they’re doing. I studied performance theory back in the day and so much of it applies to conspicuous unnecessary mask wearing.
Orangeblossom78 · 18/07/2020 20:29

I thought it just made them look ultra anxious.

Well I just emailed the school and said I'm concerned about the cost of the music lessons, and about how grades have gone down since they stopped in March and overall if it would be best to drop music altogether. And i'm going to struggle to pay for it as well. Thought it was best to be straight with them. Not sure what will happen now.

torydeathdrug · 18/07/2020 20:32

@Orangeblossom78 no me neither, it's weird Confused

Though I just read thsi in the guardian (why do I do it to myself)

“Wear one when you’re in close proximity to others – at markets, the school gates, in shops. Understandably, a lot of people don’t want to wear masks when exercising outside. If you feel you really can’t, make sure you give other people a wide berth. In restaurants and bars, wear your mask when moving about. Keep it on while your order is being taken. Of course take it off to eat and drink, but replace it when you get up to leave or go to the loo.”

WTF!?! Fucking about with a mask while you're eating & drinking is just gross. Yet more evidence it has more to do with signalling than infection control! And errrr no I won't be wearing a mask while exercising (or doing anything else!) outside - if you don't like it then do us both a favour & stay the fuck away from me Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 18/07/2020 20:37

I have a friend who is anxious and she says wearing one makes her feel safe. maybe that is part of it too. Like a comfort thing.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/07/2020 20:39

"Understandably, a lot of people don’t want to wear masks when exercising outside. If you feel you really can’t, make sure you give other people a wide berth" Confused

Do the Guardian not realise it is very low risk outside? You'd think they would be more aware

Orangeblossom78 · 18/07/2020 20:39

Maybe their writers are just as neurotic as the BBC ones

ineedaholidaynow · 18/07/2020 20:40

@torydeathdrug I think that is the advice in a number of other countries in respect of masks

torydeathdrug · 18/07/2020 20:54

I think this is better advice - Japan’s ‘Three C’s’ ... found it in the telegraph. Those are the kinds of situations I’d wear a mask though I’d generally avoid the situation as much as possible. I was happy to wear one at the dr & when I had my piercing done. I haven’t been in any shops where it was busy or confined or I got close to anyone but it might change if people venture out again. There’s just no justification for making people wear them outside.

Making people mess around with masks in bars & resultants is asking for contamination - the staff wear them at dd’s, customers don’t.

Mrsfrumble · 18/07/2020 21:03

@IAintentDead love the mask 😂

This afternoon we had a picnic at the park with families from the children’s school. It was so sublimely normal! No social distancing whatsoever for the children; they were all over each other like excited puppies, then all took off their shoes for a big, rowdy game of barefoot football. The grownups shared food and chatted, and a mum brought her new baby who was passed around like a snuggly parcel. There were a handful of doctors among the parents and they were just as relaxed and carefree as everyone else (not looming and DESPAIRING). Even DH came along. He usually steers clear of school related stuff, but he made an effort and was quite sociable so I’m feeling more kindly towards him and will attempt to discuss holidays once more before abandoning him for a holiday let in Broadstairs.

wanderings · 18/07/2020 21:12

@TheOrchidKiller This week I found my grandparents' house on Rightmove; inside, it was impossible to recognise. The previous owners had spent fortunes on it, doing it up, extending it. It was fascinating!

Willow2017 · 18/07/2020 21:27

So contrary to advice about not fiddling with them!! Putting them up and down means you are touching them and no doubt your face? What a waste of time!
No way am I wearing them outside!

DominaShantotto · 18/07/2020 21:31

Friend posted a photo of him in the pub for the first time (and this is a friend who's been a bit of a sceptical stickler for the proper - not invented - rules) and the first thing in the comments is from another friend

The following photo of it on the table beside him has gone uncommented on so far!
