What happened during my csection? Anyone with medical knowledge able to offer insight?

I had an elective csection with my second DC two years ago.

I'd had the spinal block and I was laying down whilst the HCPs were doing all the final prep bits. Then suddenly I started to feel really sick and really faint - I wanted to say something but I physically couldn't. The anaesthetist must have noticed something because he then started calling my name and asking if I was okay, but again I couldn't say anything. He then said he was going to do something and that I would have a bad headache for a few minutes. And I could then feel my heart beating really fast and massive pounding in my head. But was then fine after a few minutes and then everything went as normal.

Nothing was said about this afterwards and I just didn't really think to ask but I do wonder about it from time to time. I guess my heart rate/blood pressure dropped? What would have caused that/what did they do to resolve it and is it common?

Just curious! Grin

Blood pressure drop. Happened to me with 2 of mine. That’s why they get you to lie down as soon as the spinal goes in even though you still have feeling in your legs.

Blood pressure dropping - I felt so so poorly and faint for a few mins and wanted to throw up, they added some more stuff into my cannula and suddenly I felt loads better and was holding my baby girl!

They did warn me. I felt like I was going to throw up. It passed. I think the spinal plus your stress and anxiety about what is about to happen exacerbates it too.

I had C sections with all four of my babies and had spinal blocks with all of them. The first was an emergency, the second was after a trial labour and the 3rd and 4th elective (forced). I felt ill at some part with most of them, usually because my blood pressure had dropped very low and was given something by the anaesthetist to help. I did vomit with at least a couple of them and remember at the last saying that I felt strange. It didnt matter to me that I felt ill, I was just happy that my babies were ok as the first and 4th had been very touch and go.

Your blood pressure dropped it happened to me too, I suddenly felt very sick. The anaesthetist pumped something through my line and I felt better again after a few minutes.

I vomited during my first c section. They did something or other and the feeling passed.

I had an assisted and had a pph. Felt really cold, sick, and struggled to get out my words - my blood pressure and iron levels dropped suddenly.

I think the same happened to me, I was sick just before they wheeled me back out. I also had really bad shakes, couldn't hold my son for a while which was rubbish.

Oh wow . . . this thread made me wonder what happened during my c-section too. I had pre-eclampsia so was brought in two weeks early, and after they got DD out and DH was holding her next to my head, I started feeling so, so tired. I think I was being cleaned out and stitched up at the time. I couldn't keep my eyes open even though I was so ecstatic to see my little girl and didn't want to do anything but look at her. But I had to fight to stay awake; it felt like a superhuman effort not to let my eyelids close.

What would have caused this, does anyone know? Sorry for the thread hijack Grin
