I need girls' school blouse help, please

Dd1 has rather large boobs. Last year she wore age 17-18 boys shirts to accommodate them. I asked her to try them on today as I had a feeling they wouldn't fit, & they're incredibly tight around her chest so definitely no good for the next school year.

Where on earth do I buy school shirts/blouses in bigger fittings (plus size? But then they may be too big everywhere else?) Or, if it comes to it, how do I work out what size men's shirts to buy? Chest or neck size?

HELP!

Just to say if they are out of stock on there, there is another website called schooluniform247.co.uk that is likely to have them.

DS wears the sturdy fit trousers (huge thighs!) and I either get them from there or sturdy kids and they are exactly the same so I assume they will have the blouses as well.

Lucysmam
No it is a comfortable fit for her, but she is a bigger girl wearing woman's size 16-18. It's probably worth buying one or two different sizes and trying on at home- Sainsbury's are very good with returns I've found, and the money back to you quickly.

M&S do shirts for bigger busts with an anti-gap feature. Its just an additional little button on the inside, but really works! Here is 1 of their styles:

You can get Women’s white shirts from Asda and Next as part of their workwear range. Quite cheap and properly shaped for women. I’d also get her a couple of nude silky camisoles to wear underneath if she’s worried about buttons popping open.

Rowgtfc72 · 25/07/2020 11:31

We ordered the 46in chest size from sturdy kids. Fits beautifully round the chest however probably equates to a size 20 everywhere else. Shes 5ft 10 so we're keeping them for the novelty value of finding clothes long enough not to look like a crop top!
Still need two more so will try out some of the other suggestions.

Rowgtfc72 · 25/07/2020 11:53

Meant to add, these shirts have extra buttons on the inside too. Dd is already complaining🙂

lucysmam · 26/07/2020 09:58

@Rowgtfc72 that's handy to know - I ordered one of the 2 packs on Friday, hopefully it'll be not too bad (this is what I was expecting tbh). Does it still look reasonably smart? My dd's about a 12 everywhere else.

@Soontobe60 I've looked at the Asda and Next ones, I'd need to order size 22 for them to fit her bust. Seems like a lot of excess fabric that'll probably not look very smart

Maybe we'll try M&S as well; we were going to have a walk into town one day this coming week so could go in for a look (assuming they have them in).

@lucysmam, they do look smart l'll give them that. Dds school pe top is also a 46 chest and way shorter and smaller than these shirts. Dd is normally a 16-18.

Budapestpest · 26/07/2020 17:15

I don’t understand why a normal
Woman’s white shirt won’t do? They’re made for busts after all. A men’s shirt will be too baggy round shoulders and sleeves etc

ittooshallpass · 26/07/2020 17:17

It's not easy to get a woman's size blouse with a collar for a tie.

Rowgtfc72 · 26/07/2020 17:56

@Budapestpest, I'm a 38hh and wear a size 18/20 t-shirt. If I buy anything with buttons I find I need at least a size 22. Found this problem once I went over a dd chest.

fallfallfall · 26/07/2020 18:05

I think finding a good seamstress for custom made or alterations will be a good idea going forward.

Budapestpest · 26/07/2020 18:07

Ah, I wasn’t thinking about the collar issue.

SageRosemary · 26/07/2020 19:12

Primark do plain white or black ladies shirts/blouses - often bought by waitresses or junior office workers, they may have something to suit.

Angelnix · 26/07/2020 21:36

Glad that the link was of some help, if anyone else finds great blouses, please put them on here!

lucysmam · 28/07/2020 09:01

@Budapestpest there's the collar issue, and the excess fabric too. Dd has a 47" bust at the fullest point which I'd need to buy a size 20/22 to accommodate, the rest of her is approx a size 14 so I think there'll be a lot of spare fabric in there.

@fallfallfall I did consider sewing them myself but don't think this is the time for mum's sewing tbh. I'm confident enough with my machine that I can add darts if I need to though.

Peacocks online had womens blouses with a proper collar but the shop in town was still shut when I walked in a couple of weeks ago & online delivery had really bad reviews. I was considering nipping in for a look at theirs when we go to town, if it's open.

@Angelnix I just wanted to say thank you for the Sturdy Kids recommendation - dd has finally got round to trying on the shirts I bought & they're spot on. I half expected them being HUGE everywhere else but she says they're comfy but not tooooo big :)
