Was listening to bed of roses by Bon jovi

“A kings ransom in diamonds I’d give to see through this pay phone”

I’m sure many millennials will say “what’s a pay phone and just use face time”

Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996, so don’t be silly; of course they’ve seen and the majority will have regularly used a pay phone.

FaceTime only came in 10 years ago.

@heartsonacake

Was meant to be light hearted and just used millennials as an illustration.

Every Day Is Like Sunday.

I had to describe the Sundays of my youth to my dc - nothing open except pubs (for severely restricted hours), no buses running, barely any trains, nothing on TV except Songs of Praise and Antiques Roadshow. We had no car so couldn't even go out for a drive. They were aghast.

Now it's more Sunday Is Like Every Day.

*brand new car 😂

SlantyBaws · 16/07/2020 19:32

@Smoothprocrastinator

Craig David’s “left all your money on the tv” in fill me in.
I came on to say that 👍

I'm trying to imagine a line of pound coins along the top of the tv. Not that we use cash any more Grin

Starlyte · 16/07/2020 19:33

Here in France they are already a thing of the past... all of them are demolished or on the way for thr junk yard soon. It's the mobile phone epoch, EVERYBODY has a Smartphone now. They cost about £40 in the hyper markets.
I only wish the cover for even 3G was every where. I can't use mine at home, so I go for the real future scifi stuff, video calls through the network.
We don't even have phone land lines without internet here anymore. Is it like that in the UK? I can't imagine the Scottish Highlands or the Welsh Mts. being on internet foe everything, or am I out of date? I'm ex-pat for over 35 years so, maybe, I am too lost!

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 16/07/2020 19:33

Sylvia's mother said

Young girl boak

Don't stand so close

When I kissed the teacher

Sometimes it's good to leave things in the past

betteliefsen · 16/07/2020 19:37

Del Amitri, Nothing ever happens

And secretaries turn off typewriters and put on their coats

The needle returns to the start of the song

ALongHardWinter · 16/07/2020 19:46

'Send a treasure token
Write it on a pound note, pound note'.
By Adam Ant in 1982. I believe pound notes ceased to be legal tender in the UK in 1988.
.
Also Mungo Jerry,'In the Summer time'. The whole song is a bit dubious actually, but the line 'Take a drink, take a drive' has definitely not aged well!

smileannie · 16/07/2020 20:22

Put the needle on the record - pump up the volume

AgeLikeWine · 16/07/2020 20:27

It's like shouting in a matchbox, filled with plasterboard and hope
Like a picture of Prince William in the arms of John the Pope

Little Palaces, Elvis Costello, 1983.

Flamingolingo · 16/07/2020 20:28

I also came on to say Craig David Can You Fill Me In? I think the whole line is ‘said you were queuing for a taxi/but you left all your money on the tv’ which is not what I thought would age things really
