The other day we took some trugs full of compostable material to my parents house. (Our chickens and rabbit produce more than we have room for!) At the time, DH seemed to get bitten by some mites of some variety. I’ve had a couple of bites since. I’ve just sat in the car whilst DH ran into a shop and have picked 5 mites off my arms! I itch everywhere now! I’m just going to have to burn the house and car now aren’t I?

Steam clean the car? Treat the chickens & presumably move their pen & clean their coop properly?
I don’t see why they’d be in the house?

Oh that sounds horrible! I was going to suggest giving it a good vacuum but steam cleaning sounds even better. Or a flea bomb?

Weirdly hens have no signs of mites, and they definitely don’t look like red mites. Think they might have come out of the garden waste.

Compostable material?

😯 poo?

RowboatsinDisguise · 16/07/2020 11:54

Poo, straw, garden waste etc.

My DH gets powder from the agricultural shop for mites on his hens. It's not just the birds, all their coop and shelter needs treating.
I can find out what he does if you want?
Can you get a pic of the mites, I can show him to ask.
