That's not right, is it?
This must change immediately.
Where shall I go/stay, for beautiful nature walks and beach combing?

Like a cold muddy France

Even down to the Tour de ... bike themed tea shops etc. Grin

Quite a lot of the places suggested get busy at the best of times and probably will be overcrowded this year - we're within day trip distance of Malham and Ingleton but will almost certainly give them a miss for now.

Maybe trying to do countryside and coast is unrealistic. Have you tried looking further north? - swaledale has some lovely countryside and is generally less busy.

Try Primrose Valley for camping/caravan site

I LOVE Yorkshire. Sadly I am married to a Lancastrian so am stuck on the wrong side of the Pennies.

The Dales my favourite bits, but no coast there. The N York Moors are nearer the coast. Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes are all great. We've often stayed in Pickering which makes the coast, the Moors, and York itself very easy driving. Try Eastgate Cottages?

diplodocusinermine · 22/07/2020 10:03

When do you want to go? Cottages.com had about 5 pages of cottages available 7 nights from 1st August.

RedCatBlueCat · 22/07/2020 10:17

I dont knowxwhat dates you want, but for example a week in Skinningrove. Not the ultimate destination ation fir a holiday, but a fab beach, walks along the coastal paths, or a drive inland to get to open moorland.
Stuff is available, but I think you might have to be flexible in where you stay.

Judging from the number of tourists coming through our shop (just at the bottom of the N York moors) it wouldn't surprise me to find everywhere is currently booked up.

Hutton le Hole, Lastingham, all villages on the outskirts of Pickering are places to try (but, again, may be booked). Ampleforth may still have one or two available, or you could try the lodges near Malton, all within easy drive of the moors and coast.

But I'd wait until autumn, personally. We are heaving with tourists from now until September, but it's a fabulous place in the autum half term!

BloggersNetwork · 22/07/2020 11:46

Thank you everyone. We're looking to be there the second week of august, with some flexibility 2 days either way. Truly cannot find a thing.

Runswick Bay is fab and also Staithes - the Endeavour restaurant there is lovely.

QuestionableMouse · 22/07/2020 11:54

Look at Scarborough.

Big enough to be a nice base and there's plenty of fun stuff to do but you can also venture out too. There are a few Haven sites that might have availability?

Katharinablum · 22/07/2020 11:56

We’re nipping to our caravan in the dales at the weekend. We are trying to book tickets for fountains abbey and it’s impossible ! All booked up unless you want to go at 4pm ! That’s the trouble - apart from walks and the beach, NT stately homes etc are ticketed and seem to sell out in days ! Maybe the smaller places will be ok ?

I love Yorkshire. So many beautiful places to stay. I love Whitby as many have mentioned. We've holidayed there a few times. Also, Haworth is beautiful and one of my favourite places. Will probably be TOO quiet atm though. Skipton is a great place to stay too with a castle, walks, shops, pubs and days out from there within easy reach.

chelseahotel · 22/07/2020 12:54

Ive booked here www.holidayathome.co.uk/accommodation/brompton-lakes/juniper/ us plus adult DC. It's near Richmond so very well placed for York, coast and the Dales.
I'm not keen on Filey, Whitby. Love Staithes, Sandsend, Runswick Bay all coastal. Helmsley is a lovely market town near the NYork moors.

chelseahotel · 22/07/2020 12:56

Also just had a weekend here laskill.co.uk/
very rural.
