@Smallsteps88

Mine will be called Tim & Tom - short for Thimas and Tomothy Grin

I love this!!

We know someone called Mike and both refer to him in private as Micycle and now my son thinks that’s a legitimate name.

My friend tried to "shock" his religious parents by saying that his firstborn son will be named Andy Christian........

MyGodImSoYoung · 16/07/2020 09:34

DSD8 says that at 18 she is going to have four identical quadruplet boys. They are going to be named Tyler, Caleb, Hunter and something else I can't remember. Also, they will have a modern mansion. She has her life sorted!

Rhine · 16/07/2020 09:35

Sorry, but Deidre instantly reminds me of Deidre Barlow! 😂

Spied · 16/07/2020 09:38

I love Bridget. Fab name.
My DD 9 informs me she is going to have a children called Rosie and Finlay. OkGrin

As a child my future children were going to be Charlene and Paul.

HUCKMUCK · 16/07/2020 09:39

My DD has always said she would call a daughter Molly.

My then 4 year old Brother chose my name - it's fucking hideous IMO but not really that awful and not uncommon.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 16/07/2020 09:40

Dd is settled on Ezra. I’m going to have a bearded hipster for a gc.
I remember in the 90s a colleague was horrified that her neighbour had called her baby Wilfred. I wonder what Wilfred called his kids.

OohThatCat · 16/07/2020 09:56

When I was a kid I wanted a Kevin and a Bianca Grin

Some months ago I was in the vets (my female cockatiel has to have her beak trimmed regularly,) As I'm there regularly the reception staff will say "Hi Sybil!" or Its our Sybil" when I walk in with the cage.
A heavily pregnant woman was sitting in the waiting area on one recent visit, and as I came in and was "greeted" looked all dreamy and said quite breathily "Sybil, what a fabulous name!"

I suppose thats due for a revival now

@Davros - Bridget is a Catholic name and I agree, naff and old womany

Bridget was an amazing goddess who was appropriated by the catholic church, as were loads of others. The reason we have so many saints in ireland in comparison to some other countries is because we were polytheistic and the church figured if they changed the gods/goddesses to saints, it would be an easier transition to christianity and would therefore increase recruits. Same way they stole pagan festivals and turned them into christian ones, like christmas and easter.

The church claim bridget was a woman named after the goddess and is not the same but funnily enough, many of the stories associated with st bridget were originally associated with the goddess and the saint day is also the feast of imbolc, the feast associated with the goddess.

My youngest 18 just rolls his eyes when asked as he basically has not time for children lol.
But my eldest has a son called Mason. When i asked why Mason he said because he is ma son !!! Not much i could say to that.

Minai · 16/07/2020 13:26

I remember telling my mum when I was about 10 that I would have 2 boys named Todd and Derek Confused I have no idea why. I do have 2 boys but they are not called Todd and Derek!

Bridget (Saint) was a feminist. Inspiring stuff.

Deirdre is a fairly normal name for my generation of Irish (hello to the 6 of you in my primary school class)

OchonAgusOchonO · 16/07/2020 14:07

I think most of the good stuff came from the goddess and was later attributed to the saint. Either way, it's good to have a strong feminist as a prominent part of our culture, even if christianity eroded women's rights. The old brehon laws were much more progressive.

We're going to have a Barry.

jessstan2 · 17/07/2020 01:23

Here are the Irish spellings of Deidre, I like those:

dɪərdrə, -dri/; Irish: [ˈdʲɛɾˠdʲɾʲə];
Old Irish: Derdriu

SionnachRua · 17/07/2020 01:55

Those are pronunciation guides, not spellings (except Derdriu). No alterations needed as Deirdre by itself is an Irish name, she stars in a famous folk tale called Deirdre of the Sorrows.

gabsdot45 · 17/07/2020 08:47

My granny's name was Bridget shortened to Bridie.
It's an old lady name as far as I'm concerned.
