I love Bridget, I met a 14yo one a couple of weeks ago (in England). Not so keen on Deirdre but if it's the Deirdra pronunciation I could live with it.

We have 2 little Hazels at school and DD1 would have been Caroline but for a family clash. She's 12.

jessstan2 · 16/07/2020 01:09

Well she is only fourteen. Nothing wrong with Bridget. Deidre is Ok when pronounced the Irish way - instead of 'ee' at the end, they say, 'a' as in 'er'. Maybe the spelling is different too.

I used to have a cat called 'Everard' and told people if I had a son I would name him, 'Everard' after the cat. I was believed too!

Mine are to be called Scissors and Briefcase and Soreen (as in the malt loaf).

6 year old Dd has been dead set on those for two years now.

ChocolateCrunchies · 16/07/2020 03:09

Makes me think of Bridget Jones and Deirdre Barlow !!!

AfterSchoolWorry · 16/07/2020 03:16

Count yourself lucky, people these days are calling their kids Ivy and Marnie!

awesmum · 16/07/2020 03:59

I picked my kids names when I was 13, and did name them those names.

whereistherum · 16/07/2020 04:06

I picked my kids names when I was 13, and did name them those names.

I think I was slightly younger than this when I found a name I loved for a boy and that is what he is now called.

Gin4thewin · 16/07/2020 04:12

We know a family where the parents originate from China and they gave their girls mandarin names as well as english names. Beverly and angela.....he called them Bev and Ange.....

StillDumDeDumming · 16/07/2020 04:32

Gosh mine are seriously going to be called missy, junior, Mercy- I have a teen (who legally can now have a child) and this has been a preoccupation for some years. I’ve quite got used to Missy to my surprise.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/07/2020 04:32

In one of the Ramona Quincy books. (Which I still love) she calls her doll Chevrolet, as she thinks it's a beautiful name. And all her family laugh at her.
I'm with her, it is a lovely name. Bit that I would use it for real!

FortunesFave · 16/07/2020 04:32

Mine are Claude and Birdie!

Ozgirl75 · 16/07/2020 04:45

My son’s suggestions for the school chickens (substitute children) were Jeff and Steve.

SarahBellam · 16/07/2020 04:47

My 5yo DS intended to have 100 children and he was going to call them all Batman. Even the girls were going to be called Batman.

Ozgirl75 · 16/07/2020 05:02

We also have a lot of Chinese families at our school so have some 5-7 year olds called Alan, Kevin, Candice, Peter, Brian and John.

soundsystem · 16/07/2020 05:06

Both of these were on my list for DD! I LOVE Deirdre, and it goes really well with our surname. DH vetoed it, though Sad

RosieLemonade · 16/07/2020 05:20

My DD loves the names Boris and Donald. After Johnson and Duck.

Jenasaurus · 16/07/2020 05:43

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow

I knew a Deirdre once....good deal younger than me...(am 55) only she pronounced it as Dee-AIR-dra, which sounds much more lovely than Dear-dree, which really smacks of someones elderly irish spinster type relation.
I knew a Deirdre too and I am also 55 she was the same age as me, and she was a very pretty girl, so I tend to think of a cross between her and Deirdre Barlow
Jenasaurus · 16/07/2020 05:45

My DD likes Delilah and Teddy (she is 25 though). I was going to have Jaqueline and Susie, which I named my dolls, but chose neither for my DD I had no boys names as I decided I was only having girls, I had 2 boys and a girl

Jenasaurus · 16/07/2020 05:46

Oh and Pippy after Pippy long stocking

Millie2013 · 16/07/2020 05:47

I really want to wake up my 7yo DD and enquire as to the names of my future grandchildren Grin (but I’m not sure she’d be terribly impressed

Tinamou · 16/07/2020 05:48

DD wants to call her DD Clover. If she doesn't change her mind, I really like it!

123th · 16/07/2020 06:11

I love Bridget! I was going to name DS2 that if he was a girl

RaspberryBlonde · 16/07/2020 06:13

Apparently DD (6) will be presenting me with twin granddaughters named Ruby and Crystal. She is also considering Violet, but is tending towards changing her name to that instead!

NotQuiteUsual · 16/07/2020 06:14

Mine are going to be Arianna Grande and Pistachio Shock

TW2013 · 16/07/2020 06:25

I was going to have Hansel and Gretel from one dc, she was really into original Grimms fairy tales.
