So one of my guinea pigs Pjuske sadly past away two months ago because he got sick. But i got a little new guinea pig Elliot that same day, i don't know if that was too early but I didn't want my other one Dalton to be alone. It was fine and they got along well, but a week ago i noticed that my Dalton had lost weight, so i weight him and I ment to way him again but he past this morning, two months after Pjuske. Please help i'm so sad and confused. Was he sick or was he grieving?
And how long should i wait to invite a new guinea pig into the family? :(

How awful for you.

My condolences.

Have you got RL support at this sad time?

Oh dear. I love guinea pigs. Most likely he was ill, they are quite fragile, but if he was behaving normally, it's hard to tell.
Thinking of you x

It is quite common that this happens with piggies. It could be that they both had something wrong or guinea pig one passed it to guinea pig two.

How does your piggy seem? Personally I'd wait a couple of months and see if anything happens just in case it was an infection type thing. Alternatively you could get a new pair and have them in a separate home close to your remaining piggy for a few months so they get used to each other then gradually integrate after the two months is up.

They are extremely fragile. We have lost three of our guinea pigs in the last year and a half. It's so sad Sad. We currently have one and want him to have a friend, but we are scared it's going to happen again.

I completely understand the grief. We are beside ourselves when ours died. I think we just need to accept that they are not as hardy as other pets.
