Best reuseable nappies for beginners

nappylife · 14/07/2020 11:16

Has anyone got recommendations?
My baby is 7 months old and a heavy wetter/soiler.
We are struggling with disposables so looking at reuseables as an alternative but there are so many brands on the market.
I have no idea where to begin!

Thank you

As a starting point I would recommend the Nappy Lady's questionnaire! www.thenappylady.co.uk/nappy-advice-questionnaire.html

I use all-in-ones because I hate putting the nappies back together from little pieces, they are however less absorbant on the whole. My favourites are bambino mio nappies because they have such pretty designs! You will probably find that reusable nappies will have to be changed more often. My son still wears them at 20 months, but we use a disposable overnight to avoid needing to change.

I used little lamb bamboo for nights and got some of the littles and bloomz pocket nappies for daytime use - these are around £5 per nappy so not too expensive. You can then experiment with the different pads to find the right combo.

There are lots of variables here but you will find the ones you need! Buy one or two or buy used to start with.
The questionnaire helps a lot and you need to think about:
Does nursery/grandparents need to put them on (they will want something easy)?
How you'll wash/dry
How skinny or chunky he is.

We use a mix of reusable and disposable nappies, and like all in ones as they are extremely easy to use. Bambino mio, bum genius and grovia (slim fitting) are our favourites. Start with a small selection of different ones and see what works for you - it depends on your baby, lifestyle and washing/drying facilities.

My 3.5yo is still nowhere near dry and is now in terry squares. I wish I'd started using them sooner, they are cheap, easy to wash and dry and are very absorbent.

I'm surprised more mums don't use terries after all they worked great for years before disposables came along even when modern washing machines were a rarity.
