Hello

Heading to Sycamore Gap at the weekend, which despite being only a half away drive away, I've never been too. I cant see to find any information about where to park. Could any help me out please?

Thank you

Is it a tourist attraction? Won't there be signs for parking when you get there?

MrsW85 · 14/07/2020 08:39

There is parking dotted all along the wall. You might have to park further along and walk but you will find somewhere.

VictoriaBun · 14/07/2020 08:40

It's not great for parking tbh, there are a few pull over gaps but that's about it.
What are you expecting to see / do ?
You say you live close , so I assume you know it is what it is ( a tree in a dip between two hills along Hadrians Wall ) ? Lovely to see and makes a great photo.

Yeah I know what it is :-) We're incorporating it into a walk/picnic so happy not to park close. I just couldn't see anywhere on Google maps! Thank you for the suggestions.

Follow the road that leads north out of Once Brewed up to a carpark called Steel Rigg, that's probably the best place to park. You have to pay though, I think it's a few pounds. Hope you enjoy it!

@Lumisade That's perfect, thanks so much!

Yep park at steel rigg or if you want a longer walk park at houseteads. It's my favourite place

Sparklyring · 14/07/2020 11:31

@Redcrow How far a walk is it from Housesteads to Sycamore gap?

Theres a good circular route which is 2-3hrs long, 8 miles I think it goes to steel rigg. Following one route there and back is about 2hrs i think

Desperatelyseekingsummer · 14/07/2020 11:51

You can park at the sill visitor centre and walk up - think that will be open now. It’s an easy walk, we did it with kids last year.

HugeAckmansWife · 14/07/2020 12:33

If you park at steel Rigg just be aware that the walk to the gap is quite steep up and down. It's flatter but longer from Houseteads

TattiePants · 14/07/2020 13:24

There are two routes from Steel Rigg, as @HugeAckmansWife says, one is steep but if you walk a bit further down the hill from the car park, there is a pretty flat route that runs just south of the wall.

I went at start of lockdown, NT car park was shut, parked on a layby at Housesteads and just walked towards it... part of it was on a farm track through cows
