Tyres

Morning. I was wondering if anyone can advise me about tyres for my car. Is it worth spending the money on fancy ones when the petrol/ rain efficiency rating seems to be the same? My finances would prefer the lower cost but I can stretch if needs be...

Anyone? I'd appreciate the input

I've never bothered with expensive tyres & my MPG is just fine.

Good to know! Do you take account of the efficiency or not? Thank you!

The most important bit is the speed/load rating, get the one most applicable to you. For instance I have a 4x4 and regularly have it fully loaded so I pay for a better tyre with a higher load rating.

I would never advocate going for a cheaper tyre, a remould etc, but a mid range tyre for general bimbling about is fine if you're not driving a sports car or carting huge loads of stuff about.

What car is it for?

It's a Volvo V40. It is rarely heavily loaded and I don't do enormous mileage- maybe 10k a year.

Then I'd go for a mid range which if they're 205/55 R16 will be about £65 ish per tyre. If you need a full set then have the best kept as spare (don't forget the expiry dates for the spare even if the tread is good).

Thanks! I decided to go for the all weather ones. They're expensive but he's going to give me a deal for the four.
