Picnic blankets

Does anyone know if you can wash standard picnic blankets with the silver backing in a washing machine? Label says to just sponge, but it's a mess. Yes, my life is this interesting!

I've washed mine a few times on a cool gentle wash, such as a woollen wash and then hung it outside to dry and it's been fine.

Slightly harder to fold because it looses the creases. And if there's Velcro stick that together. But otherwise fine occasionally.
