Can someone help me with an IPhone question?

My dd has an IPhone 6. She is a bit of a hoarder and has thousands of photos and memes saved.
I already pay a small amount per month for storage but her phone is telling her it's almost full and she needs to manage her storage.
Her cloud still has loads of space.
I'm not an IPhone user so not very familiar.
Does anyone know how to sort this out (I've suggested deleting but it wasn't well received). Can we move things to the cloud and delete them from the phone?
Thanks

Yes. Back up to cloud and delete from phone. Just look it up online. There are 100s if pages of information how to do this and how to reclaim storage.

Can also get rid of unused apps. See which apps are taking up the most space. There's so much functionality.

I have an iPhone6 LOSDS of photos etc. I pay for additional storage My photos on my phone often need to 'download' to see them properly so I assume they're 'compressed on my phone?! I'd like to know the most efficient way to download them to a storage device as I know I'll end up in your daughters position & I don't entire trust at cloud'. I want them somewhere safe!

Hopefully we will get some helpful advice 🤞🏼

I don't think you can back up to the cloud and delete from the phone...it disappears from the cloud too. Can you download the photos onto a laptop and put them onto a memory stick for her?

lin07 · 13/07/2020 17:19

I just transfer all the photos and videos to a hard drive, through laptop. I have WD my passport, it's compact and light.

When you delete photos they go into a bin that also needs emptying
She needs to delete apps she’s not using either

She can send the photos via airdrop to another devise or even better get the beat ones printed

Just transfer them to a laptop/computer. You can download iCloud on a laptop and retrieve them from there then delete off the phone. I do this all the time as I have thousands of photos

Thanks everyone.
I want her to transfer the photos off her phone but she is resisting so far.
I thought there might be an easy solution we had missed.
I'll have a Google and see if there's anything else. Otherwise she'll just have to transfer things.

Go to settings - photos and select 'optimise iPhone storage', it takes the photos off the phone but leaves them in the cloud with a thumbnail on the phone, and just downloads them when you want to look at them.

Get her into the habit of deleting /culling photos and videos as you go. You cannot keep everything! It's not deleting - it's editing!

I also have put mine on a hard drive/memory stick and a laptop. But I'm nervous that I might lose them all.

I want to print some actually. Thanks for the reminder. Another thing to add to the list of stuff to do..

TheHighestSardine · 13/07/2020 17:48

Do as Minnimoll says. It'll take a while - couple of days - for the phone to delete the local fulll photos and replace them with thumbnails, but that'll sort out the warning. My Photos library is 90gig on the Mac and in iCloud, and 6gig on the iPhone.

The warning is for storage in the phone.

Don't delete pics to make space, because when you're using iCloud Photos it deletes the copy up in iCloud too.

Upload it to the cloud and then download it to a permanent storage facility then you can safely delete it.
