When did Amazon’s search results get so full of rubbish?

Looking for a basic household item on Amazon. Search results are full of sponsored items from brands I’ve never heard of and then pages of crappy items with dodgy reviews from brands I have never heard of. Increasingly even if I search for a named brand, it’s completely buried in the results. It drives me crackers!

Went off to John Lewis instead today, sensible search results and worth the pickup fee.

It’s not just me, right?

It is such a pain in the arse trying to find things on there.

CoveredInBeeeees · 13/07/2020 09:23

Nope. It’s been swamped by tat in the last few months. A lot of random Chinese stuff. I could be wrong but it seemed to coincide with lockdown, so could be a hangover from supply chain issues and recoveries.

CallarMorvern · 13/07/2020 09:27

Yep, I've noticed that too, thought it was just me🙄.
I tend to just go with eBay these days, especially as it's also difficult to see delivery charges on Amazon, until you are checking out.

I've noticed it too, just mentioned it to DH a couple of weeks back! Agree it's especially annoying when you put in quite a specific search and you seem to still get a list of shit before the actual brand you specified.

Spam88 · 13/07/2020 09:34

I wouldn't say it's that recent. There's so much Chinese rubbish on there it makes it nearly impossible to use unless you're searching for a specific brand of item.

Even when you do search for a particular brand, you keep getting shite from other brands which makes it hard to see the correctbrand stuff.
RozHuntleysStump · 13/07/2020 11:08

Yeah it’s really irritating. I’ve also ordered from elsewhere lately because it’s just quicker than sorting through all the guff on amazon.

CodenameVillanelle · 13/07/2020 11:09

Yep and their filter function doesn't work properly.
I find you can usually get the same thing on eBay with free shipping rather than £4 postage on amazon and it means not lining the pockets of Jeff bezos (though I don't know if the ceo of eBay is any better!)

ShineyMcShine · 13/07/2020 11:13

I'm sick of Amazon and their crap now. If I want something, I use other sites like John Lewis, Waterstones etc..

They dont even pay tax and I think waiting a few days for items is worth it.

I typed in 'womens long cardigan ' and got a page full of sex toys 😮
Quite how women's long cardigans equate to sex toys I have no idea!

ifanc · 13/07/2020 11:26

Definitely. It's been happening for a year or so at least. I was searching for kids party things and it was impossible. All I needed where balloons and the search function offered all sorts of irrelevant and repetitive tat instead. I avoid using it if I can.

Silvergreen · 13/07/2020 19:35

It's the same with their tv / film subscription! No proper filters & weird search results.

Pikachubaby · 13/07/2020 19:39

I am done with Amazon too
