Period pants - recommendations

Inspired by the underwear thread just started and the constant adverts on facebook for mooncups, I am considering investing in some period pants - the type that means you don't need any added sanitary protection.

If possible I am looking for black and highish waisted rather than low slung. My flow is medium and only lasts a day or two so they dont need to cater for heavy periods.

Anyone used any good ones?

Highly recommend Cheeky Wipes. Their period pants are brilliant - I am a total convert after trying them last year. Haven't looked back. I have the lace top mid rise ones but they do a higher waist one too. They are comfy and wash really well. Game changers and not as expensive as some brands.

Following as I would also like to know! I bought a lunette cup a few years ago and it's honestly changed my periods. Would be really interested in trying period pants too because it's nice to change up the sanitary wear every so often :)

DD has WUKA and Modibodi but prefers Modibodi as they are more absorbant.

Thanks for your responses so far, I will look into all of those.

One thing I am unsure about (having never seen a pair in real life, just pictures online) is what sort of material the pants are - are they (or are any of them) cotton or are they the stretchy type nylon mix? I am not overly keen on the stretchy nylon mix type when it comes to normal pants as they can get a bit "hot"

Just got Mark's & Spencer 'Confidence' range, they are really for very light days/ discharge/ oops moments, but that's all I need and they're much thinner (and cheaper! ) than the other brands.

So far, am pleased as there is very little odour compared to pads. I would still wear a tampon during periods, I am just wearing these as an alternative to daily liners.

WUKA are good, I think you can get them in Sainsbury’s now. Also like Modibodi, might be able to get them on Ocado?

I have modi bodi for first and last days.

DD has some cheeky wipes pants and likes them at night as the pad bit comes up higher at the back. She also has modi bodi and likes them too.

If you go for modi bodi though some are synthetic fabric and some bamboo/cotton. I think these ones are a nicer feel.

Lining is cotton with a waterproof outer layer, rest of pants is nylon/elastine. I don't find them too sweaty and I am a hot person. I use a menstrual cup and use the pants with that for additional protection. Last day of period just wear the pants. Also very handy for a holiday when I just pack all period pants if I know I might come on then I wear them and it doesn't matter when period comes. Also find them good for night time and exercise as the protection in the pants goes right up the back as well as front. Have never had a leak/flood with the pants yet.

DD has Modibodi and is very happy with them. Most of the ones she has are cotton but I did get a couple of extra pairs recently and they only had the nylon-y kind. But they seem ok.
Availability is a bit patchy but they're very good quality.

I hadn't thought about using them all the time instead of liners but if they are comfortable that would be great because I do use liners every day.

Has anyone got the high waist cheeky wipes? Just wondering how well the side panels survive the wash (they look mesh). I have Modibodi with sheer side panels and there are lots of broken fibres. I love the fit of Modibodi full brief but they are pricey.

I have ModiBodi, they are bamboo I think ? They fit well and also wash well, I line dry them. They have a thick gusset, obviously, but I don’t notice it when wearing them, It isn’t too bulky, and i find them very comfortable. I have the highish waist ones with the lace band at the top. I am a 10-12 and bought the medium.

I bought 1 online from sainsburys but its still in delivery so I don't have it yet. I used cloth pads and I find my thighs get sore during long walks when I wear pads. I bought a period pants to try out while on long walks during the period.

Yes the M&S ones are comfortable. Also they dry pretty quickly ~ one downside of the other brands is that they are so thick they can take a while to dry.

I looked into the others, modibodi seemed like the best but they had poor reviews for customer service which put me off. Also they use wool, and some people complained about the smell.

I guess it's just trial and error to what suits you, but an expensive trial... I'm definitely going to buy more M&S ones for everyday use. And possibly wuka for actual periods? (DD has a pair and says they're great, but you'd need 3 or 4 to wash and dry)

I have the modi bodi vegan pants and I recommend them, comfy and not wool, not itchy and no smell.

I’ve got some high waisted (huge) modibodi ones. They’re doing well against my long light periods.

Definitely a vote for cheeky wipes here. Quite a lot cheaper than Modibody. I bought one pair to try and just order two more - they're ace.

Previously been using a mooncup for several years but these are so easy.

I love my modibodi and have full confidence in them. I only trust my cheeky wipes on light to medium days.

are any of them good enough for relatively heavy days, to use without a tampon? how many pairs do you need a day in that case?

I have cheeky wipes and modi bodi and to be honest you get what you pay for in my opinion.

I ordered some lace top and sporty ones from cheeky wipes and the sizes varied so much, also some of the elastic started fraying and they sent a replacement. It happened again so not sure I would order from them again even though customer service was great.

I treated myself to modi bodi and they are definitely more comfortable. Intrigued to see what others recommend though as I want to add to my collection
