Family tv viewing recommendations

Hi

My 9 year old and I have just finished watching once upon a time, she absolutely loved it and I quite enjoyed it too. Grown up enough to be interesting but no explicit references to sex or gory violence or anything like that.

I can't seem to find anything else along these lines that we can watch together. Has anybody watched anything with their children along these lines and can make any recommendations?

We also enjoy watching only connect, brutish bake off, sewing bee, ninja warrior and plenty of wildlife documentaries.

My DC really enjoyed Locke and Key. But I dont know if its suitable for a 9 year old. I cant remember

I watched a couple of episodes and it's too creepy for my daughter (almost too creepy for me!) thanks though :) she's at a really awkward age where some stuff is still to grown up but she doesn't just want to watch cartoons (and neither do I)

What about Lego masters?

We like The Zoo (the talking zoo animals one)

modern family is really good for all ages and very funny too

Have you tried The Good place on Netflix? My daughter also used to really like things like the house of Anubis, and the haunted Hathaways when she was around 9 that I found were quite entertaining too. There’s also Dr Who - she started watching from when David Tennant was the doctor and it wasn’t too scary.

Malcolm in the Middle? It just started this weekend, there are about 6 on every Sunday

I vaguely remember it being slightly creepy when I think about it.
I agree it's a tricky age for TV. I remember struggling to find things that we could all watch a few years ago when dc were 11 and 13ish. My then dp (now ex) refused to watch anything he deemed childish but didn't accept that DC weren't old enough for a lot of things he wanted to watch. It was a nightmare!

A series of unfortunate events is brilliant for kids and also family reunion is hilarious, both on nextflix

We're watching lost in space with ours at the moment.
There also the never ending story series and dark crystal on Netflix but we've not watched those yet so couldn't say for sure they are suitable. Usually easy to check on IMDB though

We've just all enjoyed watching Merlin on BBC iplayer.
If you have Amazon prime, we really enjoyed 'Gortimor Gibbons life on normal street' a while back.
