Would you eat this

I bought some fresh fish today. Thinking about it now, there were quite a few flies in the shop & the fish counter wasn’t covered. The person that served me washed their hands but didn’t put any gloves on to handle the fish. I can’t be sure they used a bag to pick up the the fish either, as I was looking at other items. I think they just picked it up with bare hands & touched the till straight after.

You're going to cook it. It will be fine.

Finfintytint · 11/07/2020 13:46

Yes, presumably you are going to cook it.

lastqueenofscotland · 11/07/2020 13:48

Yes.

LoseLooseLucy · 11/07/2020 13:48

Bought today? Yes I’d cook and eat it.

Elouera · 11/07/2020 13:48

I wouldnt eat it sushimi style, but cooked should be fine if it doesnt smell off?

Offredismysister · 11/07/2020 13:51

I’ll usually eat food even if it’s out of date. I think it was the flies & bare hands that put me off.

I bought scallops too. It all looked fresh, smells fine & will be cooked.

Yes. I’m over cautious about food but as long as it’s cooked it will be fine

vampirethriller · 11/07/2020 13:54

I wouldn't eat anything if there had been flies around it. Bare hands wouldn't bother me though.

Fred578 · 11/07/2020 13:54

Not a great advertisement for the shop though 😂🤮

Offredismysister · 11/07/2020 13:59

@Fred578 I know. It’s a popular family run shop that’s been going over 50 years aswell.

I’d proabably have been better off buying it all pre packed from Sainsbury’s 😫

Yes, I'd eat it. Gloves are not necessarily more hygeinic if people touch lots of things.

Veterinari · 11/07/2020 15:22

Depending on the type of fish it has touched a lot of worse things - river/seawater, nets, boat decking, crates etc. prior to arriving at the fishmongers. Food is not sterile - the pre-packed stuff you think is better will have been touched and filleted by someone too.

What are you actually worried about if you're cooking it?

Offredismysister · 11/07/2020 15:29

Cod & Scallops. It’s the flies I’m worried about.
