Relaxation app which isn't mindfulness

I would like some kind of guided relaxation to listen to to help me wind down as I need a bit of help in this area.

What I don't want/need is mindfulness. I want something that gets me out of my thoughts and imagining I live in a log cabin in the rain or something, not doing a body scan or being in the moment.

I downloaded the calm app but I don't think it's what I want and I found the voices irritating.

Any recommendations?

Have you tried Insight Timer? It might take a bit of trawling through until you find something you like but its free and has many different options.

Also try to search You Tube for visualisation/relaxations with some of the words that you like (cabin/woods/river..whatever)

Headspace has all sorts other than the mindfulness stuff, including just relaxing sounds (waves, rain etc), and relaxing stories in their sleep section.

Meditainmemt is fabulous for this. Gorgeous guided visualisations.

YouTube has got loads of stuff like this, but you need to have the app open to listen, unless you get the premium version. But it probably has the widest range of stuff.

I really don't rate Headspace. I used it when I had cancer, and did the 'cancer program' and it was soooooo boring I gave up!

One of the podcasts that I subscribe to is called Sleep With Me.

I sometimes put it on when I go to bed. I'm not sure whether to recommend it or not. I've literally never stayed awake past the first 5 minutes so don't know if it's any good!

Sleepies app

ThatsHowWeRowl · 10/07/2020 18:11

Oh yes, I hadn't thought of podcasts (Sleep With Me is a good name!) There must be loads of podcasts with this kind of stuff actually, and they are all free and can be played with the app closed. Winner!

For real relaxation -this actually comes with an advisory not to drive whilst listening to it. It slows heart rate, reduces BP & reduces stress up to 65%
