I've just seen a thread about a twatty boss who was quibbling over a 1 minute discrepancy in a start time and it reminded me of the fucking ridiculous boss I used to have.
I work in film and television, so very casual dress code and people come as themselves and work very very long hours for no overtime. My boss at one particular place of work was a lunatic and wanted to micro manage everything and everyone. He would stand with a stop watch and time people arriving and then mark it on a chart that everyone could see and he would take the times and make a chart at the end of each month which he would talk everyone through i.e: "So Ollie, you were four minutes late on the first Wednesday but interestingly you were on time the following Wednesday..." and so on.
He then decided that staff should eat breakfast when they arrived at work so that he knew everyone had had a healthy meal and would be as productive as possible.... and for some insane reason, people humoured him and arrived fifteen minutes early with breakfast.
He would then police everyone's breakfast looking at the sugar content of cereals etc and finally set up a cereal bar of 'approved cereals'.
He then decided that even though the industry is notoriously not just casual dress, but often very individual dress, he wanted everyone to wear blue and only blue because this was 'smart'. I refused to do this and threatened to leave and was given dispensation to wear a few other colours because I was so senior. But the last straw was when his wife (who was head of HR) decided that people were wearing unsuitable shoes - again, film production - no clients, noone but ourselves - and created a WhatsApp group so that EVERYONE could text a picture of the shoes they were planning to wear that day so that she could SIGN THEM OFF.
There were about 45 people working there so people had to start sending pics from about 6am.
It was fucking mental. The shoe thing was the last straw and I left, but I still have a couple of friends there are there are new and even more ridiculous rules in place now.
