Reading eggs?

Have only recently heard of these, via here.

Have had a quick Google, it seems to pull up hundreds of options. Different prices, apps etc.

Could anyone please give a Dummy's Guide to Reading Eggs at all please?

Has it helped your DC at all? Do they all cost? How do I know what is the best of the bunch?

We loved reading eggs. Suitable for 3 years old upwards. Do 10 mins a day and your child will be reading on no time. However if you try it and they don't like it come back to it a few months later. My second child was ready for it a little later than the first but when they're brains are ready, it's really good.

It worked really well for 2 of my children. Did not help at all for my dyslexic child, we had to use a specialist programme for her.

Thanks. They sound very promising. How exactly do they work?
Why so many different types? Are they all subscriptions? Do I just download an app? Confused
