Black coffee for weight loss?

Is there any truth that black coffee can aid weight loss?

I've hit a bit of a wall with weight loss. I run lots and I've been doing 16:8. My diet is pretty healthy, too much bread if anything and I'm trying to cut down. Part of the 16:8 is that you're allowed black coffee during fasting time, I've never been a coffee drinker but I do feel like I want something in the morning while I'm still fasting till 930. I dont really like it but i know if i drink it enough i will. Does it really speed up metabolism? And is one cup a day enough to start that process?

If black coffee made a difference I’d be a stick insect. But I’m not. I guess it may have a marginal impact on metabolism. It also raises your heart rate etc too so don’t over do it

Helps lose excess fluid, but not masses.

I think it is more if you were previously drinking milky coffee like latte or other higher calorie drinks and then switch to black coffee or water or anything with no or few calories that will help weight loss.

If it were true, I'd be skinny, I drink loads of coffee, black no sugar. As GOODCAT says, switching to black rather than with milk and sugar will help. I think it's also that if you weren't previously a coffee drinker, then the caffeine may give you a boost of energy and help burn a marginal amount of extra calories.

Friends of mine that have incorporated black coffee into fasting regimes felt it helped them as it was "something" to consume to stave off hunger a little longer and provide a little energy to get them through to the next meal, rather than it burning extra calories etc.

Caffeine can help to suppress your appetite I think. I've been back on full-caffeine tea over the last few months and its definitely had that effect on me.

Bearnecessity · 08/07/2020 08:43

Green tea (with mint if more palatable) would be better imo.

Thanks for the replies. I dont like green tea. I might buy some coffee and try it. We'll see

It's delicious but hasn't made me thin!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 09/07/2020 09:52

As my username would suggest, this is my preferred coffee. I find it hard to loose weight. I also drink green tea and mint tea (no sugar or other additions).

mencken · 09/07/2020 10:23

any 'increase in metabolism' is tiny. Experiments have been done on mice who get very slightly thinner.

losing weight is not about what you put in your mouth. It is about what you DON'T put in.

I live on black coffee. I do use it as a temporary filler mid morning to help me avoid the biscuits!

DGRossetti · 09/07/2020 10:47

If you saw the calories in a cappuccino/latte (100-200), you'd know straightaway ...

That was when I switched to Americano: 2-4 calories ...

BoxAndKnife · 09/07/2020 11:36

I drink black coffee while fasting, it does take the edge off and it's got to be better than a skinny mochaccino frappe with extra sugarfree syrup or whatever abomination Starbucks are flogging this week.

It 'aids weight loss' in the sense that it's a bit of an appetite suppressant, but I don't think it has an appreciable impact on metabolism per se.

HPLikecraft · 09/07/2020 15:59

I drank lots of black coffee after stopping BF my first DC to help me lose weight, on the advice of an acquaintance. It worked for me by suppressing my appetite and making me eat less... but it kept me awake at night and made me feel sick and juddery!

I haven't used this method again.

dudsville · 09/07/2020 20:38

Eat a couple of apples every day. That'll aid weight loss!
