Do you thank delivery drivers?

I always do but often get met with a confused look as they walk away, like it doesn’t happen normally.

Just now, knock on door, parcel on step and can over drive, I call out “thank you” and get “oh, erm you’re welcome” back!
Am I the only one?

Yes, assuming they bother to ring and don’t just dump the parcel on the doorstep (which is pretty secure but can get wet!).

Bargebill19 · 07/07/2020 14:31

I always say thank you - it’s good manners! I also fill in any feed back forms eg amazon.

Heartofstrings · 07/07/2020 14:32

I always say thankyou and my boys wave them off as they drive away Blush they are 2 and 3. The drivers mostly wave back Grin

megletthesecond · 07/07/2020 14:34

Yes, always.

Scarby9 · 07/07/2020 14:35

Always, and they never look surprised. Usually get a 'Cheers!' or something similar.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/07/2020 14:35

Always. It costs nothing to be pleasant. Ditto bus drivers, taxis, shop assistants, waiters etc.

Happynow001 · 07/07/2020 14:37

Yes always.

Etinox · 07/07/2020 14:37

Always and I keep a pile of pound coins to tip as well, after seeing
“Sorry we missed you”
Bleak Ken Loach film, can’t recommend

picklemewalnuts · 07/07/2020 14:38

Yes.

I've noticed delivery men who do not speak English as a first language seem to go out of their way to make eye contact, be very smiley and unthreatening. I think they must feel a bit vulnerable to being complained about. The more local delivery guys tend to throw it at me with a grunt.

legalseagull · 07/07/2020 14:40

Everyone does surely? Just a quick "cheers" or "thanks". It's just what you say when someone hands your something.

Floralnomad · 07/07/2020 14:41

I do , however I think having to turn round and respond probably takes up time that they don’t really want to spare . We had a parcel collected by DPD at 2 today and we were the drivers 128th stop , very busy people .

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 07/07/2020 14:43

Always, manners cost nothing.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/07/2020 14:44

No I'm I don't waste my good manners on those in the service industry.

I jest. Seriously, surely everyone says thank you? They hand you the parcel, would people really just stare at them and off??

MashedSpud · 07/07/2020 14:44

Yes, I always do.

AuntyPasta · 07/07/2020 14:48

Yes. I also give positive reviews as standard for online supermarket deliveries (when I’m asked.) I have no problem with surly as long as I get my stuff. It’s often a very underpaid job and many drivers are treated as contractors and lose out on benefits like sick pay.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 07/07/2020 14:51

Yes, always, however today came home to find Amazon had left our parcel in our actual rubbish bin, not a recycling bin, the one where all the actual waste goes. He had to walk past the nice clean recycling bins to get to it, and our instructions for if we're out are leave in back porch, so I wouldn't have thanked this one 🙄

AuntMasha · 07/07/2020 14:51

Yes, always.

Rockbird · 07/07/2020 14:54

Yes of course. I say thank you to everyone. If someone kicked me up the bum I'd probably say thank you Blush

AuntMasha · 07/07/2020 14:57

@Rockbird

Yes of course. I say thank you to everyone. If someone kicked me up the bum I'd probably say thank you Blush
Same here. And I’d probably apologise too.
passthemustard · 07/07/2020 15:51

Yes always, but I know them all by name now 😂😂😬

BoatyKarenMcKarenface · 07/07/2020 15:57

Erm yes obviously... If someone's handing over a parcel I would think most people would say thank you, not just take the parcel in silence and close the door.

JellyfishandShells · 07/07/2020 15:58

Of course I say thank you - it would be very odd just to take a parcel handed to me. During Covid, they have understandably either been putting it on the doormat and then ringing and standing back/ leaving or handing it to me and stepping back quickly. In these circumstances I don’t expect any kind of reciprocal acknowledgement of my thanks - I’m grateful not just for that particular delivery but that they, and all their colleagues, have continued to do their job.

pipnchops · 07/07/2020 15:59

I always say thank you if I see them and don't get odd looks at all.

Auntydarah · 07/07/2020 15:59

Always. Especially now. I've never had that experience of confusion back. Where do you live?

CorianderLord · 07/07/2020 15:59

Obviously yes
