Can anyone remember the WHO mask advice changing and including something about mask making keeping people busy and providing a small amount of income in difficult times. I can’t find it again but I definitely remember reading it.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 07/07/2020 20:49

I did @NannyPhlegm
I think I shared that story on the first thread I joined.

That's really sweet to think thats stuck with someone.

BakewellTarts · 07/07/2020 20:50

I'm still seeing very few masks out and about. Most people I know think they are useless and aren't bothering. We all bother with social distancing from others and hand washing and with infection rates so low I think we should be OK.

BakewellTarts · 07/07/2020 20:52

@LivinLaVidaLoki I also think your mums attitude rocks. My dad went on a 6 week trip to NZ after his cancer diagnosis somewhere he'd always wanted to go. I'm so glad he got to do that before he died.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/07/2020 20:55

I'm seeing less masks. Especially in a certain wholesale membership warehouse store Grin

I've been a victim of a perspex screen at the chippie tonight... the word "two" with reference to portions of chips was missed from my order. I didn't twig until I got home and found that we had 4 jumbo/ battered sausages, a salad pitta bread and one small chips to share between 4 people.
DS1 is now eating a Pot Noodle for desert Grin

Mascotte · 07/07/2020 20:59

When I picked up my prescription the woman was behind a Perspex screen wearing a mask. I genuinely couldn't hear what she was asking me. This is going to be bad.

TheOrchidKiller · 07/07/2020 20:59

@BarkandCheese that meme is brilliant! I do hope Wallace Drakeford thought very Caerphilly whilst tweeting his cheesey comments. (Sorry. And sorry to all Welsh speakers for assuming you pronounce Caerphilly that way).

I've pondered the not being allowed to wear school uniform for hygiene reasons thing over the past few weeks. Are the schools actually checking that what they turn up in on a Monday wasn't also worn for a granny-slaying trip to the park the day before? Maybe everyone else has better standards than me, but when mine were at primary school I didn't have the time or energy to do that much washing. So long as it wasn't too minging it got worn two days in a row. It was also cheaper to buy non-logoed primary uniform than non-uniform clothes.
(In case my slovenly ways are worrying anyone, I do wear clean uniform each shift myself).

Am thanking my lucky stars that I've now only got one child in education (Yr 12). Huge respect to all of you who are having to home ed right now.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/07/2020 21:01

I was in y7 in a humanities lesson when I decided I wanted to be memorable and have a great life. It was probably around the time we were drawing maps of our lives and mine had lots of pet grave stones and my dad's as he died a few months eariler. He was in his early 50s.

Teateaandmoretea · 07/07/2020 21:02

DD’s school worded it that ‘school uniform is not compulsory as we would prefer children to wear clean clothes each day’. So I could have sent her in it. She’d have probably divorced me as a parent though 😂😂

IAintentDead · 07/07/2020 21:08

The Martin Lewis quick poll question showed that non mask wearers are way in the majority in his FB group voters.

TheOrchidKiller · 07/07/2020 21:09

@BogRollBOGOF that's a tragic loss of chips.
@Mascotte I did a double-take a couple of months ago over the visor & mask combo which was being worn by the woman serving me in the post office. She was stood behind the perspex security window. That seemed a little OTT.
OH has bought a mask for his barber's appointment. It looks like he's wearing a bra cup on his face. Not attractive.

Mascotte · 07/07/2020 21:12

I'm trying to find a hairdresser that doesn't require me to wear a mask.

chocolatesweets · 07/07/2020 21:14

Hii

mightbealittlebitmad · 07/07/2020 21:16

We have screens up on the bar and also have to wear a face covering, it does make it much harder trying to communicate with one another!

When everyone had left I just took mine off, not faffing around keeping it on when there is only 2 of us in the building and staff don't distance.

TheOrchidKiller · 07/07/2020 21:16

Suppose it depends on what your uniform is like, & how much you like wearing it, Tea. I get it, pick your battles as a mum!
I have noticed the year 6s round here in uniform, & several of them seem to be walking home from school in pairs, which is nice to see, & a normal sight at this time of year as they practise getting ready for secondary.

IAintentDead · 07/07/2020 21:17

When I was young (yaawwwwwwnnnnnnnn)
My uniform at school was shirt (I had 3 and was expected to wear one for 3 days unless I had spilt something) a tie which could only be sponged. A tunic which was worn from September to May when I changed into summer uniform and was then dry cleaned. Blazer, which was worn until I grew out of it, - no cleaning ever. And stupid hat (if we were caught outside without it there was Saturday morning detention)

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 07/07/2020 21:18

Love the thread title!

Just checking in. I had a better day. Always nice when it isn't relentlessly tough isn't it? A friend had some good news - she's pregnant. I remember having an argument with a dementor friend early on in lockdown who insisted life would never be normal again.I said that wasn't human nature and while we would see changes with the economy, etc, people would start businesses and get married and have children so it's rather lovely to sit here and say there is indeed a new life cooking. And my friend and her partner have their own small business in hospitality so it's a brave decision to make but life goes on doesn't it? People are resourceful, they'll find a way to keep afloat.

Anyway, said dementor friend posted a positive news story about the virus today. I nearly died of shock!! Honest to god it's the first bit of positivity I've seen from her in over 3 months and my other chief dementor friend LIKED THE POST. I felt like replying with 'careful now!' Father Ted style

Dowser · 07/07/2020 21:20

@amicissimma
How lovely
I loved the hovercrafts
28 mins
Princess Anne and princess margaret weren’t they

Dowser · 07/07/2020 21:23

@IAintentDead
We had the stupid hat
I was working in a betting shop at 18 , yet got detention at school for not wearing hat after school
You couldn’t make it up

NannyPhlegm · 07/07/2020 21:23

Both my girls are loving wearing their own clothes. I've always been fanatically pro-uniform, but I'm changing my tune now.

I thought inappropriate clothes would be worn - wrong, after the first day most kids settled into a jeans-tee-hoodie combo.

I thought there would be differentiations based on cheap/expensive clothes - wrong, it's actually easier to hide when everyone's wearing own clothes, as second hand uniforms are very very visible.

I thought it was nice to have everyone dressed in exactly the same thing - wrong, it's wonderful to see the kids' personalities shine through.

Of course, this utopia may not last if it's a long term thing, but I'm pleasantly surprised for now and certainly not as pro-uniform as I used to be

Dowser · 07/07/2020 21:23

That was betting shop on a Saturday
Obviously was in school Monday to friday

BakewellTarts · 07/07/2020 21:24

I think mask wearing for haircuts is compulsory under the guidance issued to hairdressers. I haven't seen a haircut picture without one.

Dowser · 07/07/2020 21:25

Me too @NannyPhlegm
I voted for school uniform and wished I hadn’t
I was throwing virtually unworn clothes away that the children had outgrown

MitziK · 07/07/2020 21:26

If D = fn + (p x 0) then AD = - fn - (p x 0)

Don't you have to tidy it up a bit?

IF D = fn + 0p THEN AD = - fn - 0p

IF D = fn THEN AD = - fn

or the reciprocal of AD is fn

1/AD = fn

Therefore AD = 1/fn

Which implies that D or fn/1 = 1/fn or AD

Therefore fn is either -1 or 1.

So yes or no.

Or in this case, DOOM or NOT DOOM.

It's a long time since I did Maths.

My head hurts.

BarkandCheese · 07/07/2020 21:27

The Mousetrap is set to reopening in October, the first west end show to announce its reopening. I used to work on it many moons ago and I can see why it’s opening, small cast and crew, no set changes, low overheads so they don’t need full houses to break even. The cast are going to be 1m apart on stage at all times, I can only think of a couple of bits they’ll need to reblock to achieve that.

I’m wondering if the big theatres with resident musicals, which probably won’t be back this year, might put on smaller shows in the interim. There are plenty of small cast, minimal set shows and I’m sure audiences will be desperate to go and see anything half decent. I reckon there’s going to be a scramble for the rights to things like Art, Shirley Valentine, The Lady in the Van and Waiting for Godo.
