@LivinLaVidaLoki
Loving your mum's attitude. My mum would have been the same.

This can include
• Face-to-face time
• Online learning
• Textbooks and physical resources

Let’s work together to keep our children learning and #KeepEducationSafe
@BarkandCheese I'm so super jealous you have worked on a show like that! Are you Theatre in general? It's my absolute favourite thing to do. I always want to know what happens backstage. I have a dance background so I know it's probably boring and stress has shit but one does still wonder 😂
I used to work in lighting, gave it up rather reluctantly about six years ago because the hours don’t work with parenting a school aged child.

Backstage during shows is generally very organised, it has to be. It’s a small dark space where you can’t make any noise so everyone has to know exactly where they’re meant to be and what they’re doing. Sometimes I’d have to go and sort out some kind of emergency lighting issue mid show and it was always very stressful because if you were in someone’s way you’d just get mown down or yanked out of the way.

BogRoll you were meant to "grow into" that uniform! And ideally pass it on to younger siblings, cousins & neighbours. Grin
Oh yes, the coloured PE knickers! Navy blue in primary and maroon in secondary. Thick & sweaty, just what you want to run about in.

Dollybagwash · 07/07/2020 22:27

Wow! That's a cool job! In my former life I was a "professional dancer" which equated to working for buffalo joes 😂 some north east or glasgow people might remember that.

I do have training though and run my own dance school now and even our wee shows, backstage is just the best feeling. Shite when it all goes to shit right enough! 😂

Oh god I did not mean to post that 17000 times!

PickAChew · 07/07/2020 22:33

Half my "threads I'm on" is full of repeat posts. I think mumsnet is having a wobble.

DH is watching something called Community and it's utter tripe. He keeps nodding off. I'm very tempted to turn it off.

Shodan · 07/07/2020 22:38

Ahhhh games knickers Grin

I was once berated by a teacher for not wearing my school knickers under my tennis skirt. Which meant, of course, that she was looking up my skirt. Perv.

And before the little kilt-type games skirts, we had woollen culotte style things which chafed on a cold winter's day...

My kids don't know they're born, with their tracksuits and moisture-wicking ensembles.

Yes games knickers

except they weren't - they were what we were expected to wear all day every day.

Growing is so overrated Wink

World has gone bloody mad. This from an NHS doctor.

The more I think about it the more outraged I am by NEU saying breastfeeding teachers should work from home on normal pay due to covid.
I'm an NHS doctor, I'm also a mother breastfeeding her 15 month old who has been working front line throughout the pandemic. I have been delivering babies who I have strongly recommend should be breastfed as per rcog guidance that even if mum is covid positive breastfeeding is beneficial.
I think this stance is not only not based on any evidence it is frankly dangerous as it may encourage early weaning denying babies protection against covid as well as many other diseases.
Many frontline doctors and other keyworkers are breastfeeding. I wondered if this something that has got others angry. I've written to the NEU and also to the BMA (my own union who supported the teachers unions) but no response as yet...

rosettesforjill · 07/07/2020 23:15

I am breastfeeding and was hoping I could sell my breastmilk if I got a positive Covid test. Surely someone would pay good money for some of those shit-hot antibodies

Glad to have found you again! I had the most wonderful weekend visiting and staying with my parents and then my in laws. They were so, so happy to see their grandchildren. Much illicit hugging and I even went for a run with my mum and we breathed all over each other. I never want to wait so long to see them again.

rosettesforjill · 07/07/2020 23:16

Although... I work in education and if they will let me stay at home and not work because I breastfeed my 12 month old twice a day then...

KaronAVyrus · 07/07/2020 23:18

Some people seem determined to talk themselves out of a job. If breastfeeding teachers don’t work for 12 months then it will be another service that will be quietly dropped.

Mascotte · 07/07/2020 23:19

So.. the BBC reporting that around 80% of people testing positive for CV have no symptoms, and this is a bad thing as it shows how asymptomatic people spread it..?

I've had wine, but does this follow?

justasking111 · 07/07/2020 23:27

@Mascotte, no it does not really. IMO it means that you have resistance to it or it really is no big deal for most of us and is not as bad as a summer cold, which is something I hate to catch.

NannyPhlegm · 07/07/2020 23:33

@justasking111 I have a sinking feeling that the Senedd are pushing for blended learning in September, come what may. I can't bear to think too much about it, it upsets me too much.

Mascotte · 07/07/2020 23:34

Thanks @justasking111. It seemed a weird interpretation but I doubt myself!

justasking111 · 07/07/2020 23:38

@NannyPhlegm it looks like Education Wales let the cat out of the bag prematurely, Kirsty is being held back for some reason, no-one seems to know when she will be allowed to make a statement. Our councils are going mad with the lack of communication from Cardiff.

PatriciaHolm · 07/07/2020 23:45

No. it's an assumption that asymptomatic people spread it.

There is a difference between asymptomatic (never have symptoms) and presymptomatic (don't have yet, but will do). The latter will spread it, but there is debate about the former.

I think that's from the ONS study today which said 22% of people in their sample who tested positive had no symptoms at the time. Its a big leap to say from that that 80% of sufferers spread it without symptoms.

IAintentDead · 07/07/2020 23:45

Going back in time, way way back (as Johnny Walker says) I remember reading about undiscovered communities of people. I remember reading that it would be very dangerous for them to be 'discovered' because '''''even the common cold could kill them because they have no resistance''''' That 'common cold' would be a coronavirus then. So a NEW coronavirus can kill people that haven't got a resistance but mostly is 'just a cold'. Hmmm

The more I read - the more I am convinced this is going to become one of the common coronaviruses that is 'out there'.
