How to leave a group chat without looking rude?

imtiredofyoueczema · 07/07/2020 12:20

Moving to a new estate and was added into the group with all the other ladies. I don't really message much in the group much and when I do my message gets over looked.

How on earth can I leave now without looking rude?

Why do you want to leave?

crumpet · 07/07/2020 12:23

Mute it?

Celticdawn5 · 07/07/2020 12:26

It’s not rude. If you are not getting anything out of being a member then you are justified in leaving the group and in the unlikely event that anyone queries it, be honest.

flibbertmygibbert · 07/07/2020 12:27

Just ignore it and don’t leave?

Painterpatty · 07/07/2020 12:28

Put it on mute forever 👌 There is literally no way to leave without someone taking offence 🤣

imtiredofyoueczema · 07/07/2020 12:28

It's a group chat so it will say that I have left, I just can't stand some of the girls already to be honest as bad as it sounds.

Oh god I would not care about looking rude I would just leave. The group chat for everything that I read about on Mumsnet is my idea of hell.

SoddingWeddings · 07/07/2020 12:30

I'd just leave. Is it Facebook Messenger?

Hileni · 07/07/2020 12:31

Just leave and if anyone says anything just blame it on your phone acting up.

Barnyandella80 · 07/07/2020 12:32

Could be useful to stay in though?

I’m on our street WhatsApp and I ignore lots of the banter but it’s been useful at times, for example when a suspicious person was seen in our road recently it was useful that all the neighbours were notified & on high alert. It’s also been useful when an iPhone & set of house keys were found on the street

Gemedin · 07/07/2020 12:32

Say you're running out of storage on your phone so need to delete some data x

This!

If you have to maintain some degree of relationship with the women (or you DC do?) is just mute it and let it tick over in the background.

Tryingtogetitright · 07/07/2020 12:43

You could put a message on saying since lockdown you "are simplifying your social media so are leaving lots of groups including this one, take care" then leave quick before anyone comments on it!

Silentfrog · 07/07/2020 12:45

I messaged the person who added me, and explained I don't enjoy group chats as they increase my anxiety, and then left. True, in my case.

BlueJava · 07/07/2020 13:07

Just leave! I was added to a group for our cul de sac... I just took myself off it. I don't care if they discussed why I left or not!

AfterSchoolWorry · 07/07/2020 13:09

They overlook your messages so why do you care if they're offended!? Confused

Branleuse · 07/07/2020 13:11

just leave it, and say "sorry, i cant keep up with the notifications, I dont really do these group chats, but thanks for the invite anyway, see you guys in real life soon"

LesNanas · 07/07/2020 13:12

Gosh, just leave, if there's no benefit to you remaining. DS's old school's class parents' WhatsApp was the most monumentally stupid and gabby group I've ever had the misfortune to be involved in endless reams of textspeak about forgotten homework and teacher moans but I decided it was worth staying in for occasional questions I had about things. I just muted it and never read it unless I needed to see answers to my own questions.

I've certainly left other groups without thinking twice.

ThickFast · 07/07/2020 13:13

I did this. Just say that groups chats make you feel anxious and so you need to leave group.

imtiredofyoueczema · 07/07/2020 13:19

I can't stand them I feel like they get too cliquey I've muted it as you never know might need it one day.

We've got a local one of these, people leave at regular intervals and no one even knows who they are or bats an eyelid.

Branleuse · 07/07/2020 15:19

Ive muted my local neighbourhood one. Otherwise it just goes off constantly. I check it here and there
