What to do for FIL 70th Birthday

So as the title says, fil is 70 in August and would like to arrange something for him. He doesn't drink and is not the party type. Was thinking of a nice family meal in a restaurant with his children, grandchildren and daughters in law. Anyone have any other ideas?

What about some sort of activity? Off the top of my head but probably not very original...

Birds of prey?
Wine tasting?

Something a bit more high octane?

I like the idea of a family activity, sounds good. No wine tasting though, doesn't drink.

From what you've written, he doesn't seem like a man who would appreciate a big faff being made over his birthday. I would keep it very simple. A lovely dinner with very close family would be sufficient.

If you want something different, maybe a family getaway... cottage in lakes for a couple of nights (or similar)

Coronvirus may ruin your plans

@Aquamarine1029, yes he wouldn't like a faff at all. I know he would really enjoy a nice meal, just didn't know if it was enough. I'm thinking a nice present for him too. He appreciates good jewellery. We got him a beautiful watch for his 60th and he adores it.

For a man with simple tastes, it's more than enough. Have you considered a garden party/BBQ? You could even have it catered.

Family meal might not be possible if they don’t relax the rules further, currently it’s 2 households only & no more than 6 people to a table.
A day out & luxury picnic at a favourite beauty spot, National trust place or outdoor activity.

@IggyAce, we live in Ireland, different rules here. Last phase of our lockdown is July 20th.

Sounds like a family gathering would be lovely - and having catering for a party in the garden could be a great idea.
I heard this being discussed on the radio - a virtual tour of New York for an anniversary trip cancelled due to Covid-19. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-52755383
A great idea - if you google ‘Virtual New York/Paris/Venice’ whatever, lots of ideas come up. You could all go to a virtual Broadway show! 😁

@mrssmiling, that's looks great. If we were guaranteed good weather a good bbq be fab. We all live fairly close to each other so no driving.
