The "genuinely interested" red flag

Does anyone else see the phrase "genuinely interested" or "genuinely want to know" on a MN thread about a potentially controversial topic and instantly think "OP is a GF wanting to start a bunfight"? For example, "I'm not teacher bashing but genuinely want to know..."

Or is it just me?

OP posts:

No, I often think some threads are started to be controversial and OP is then all wide eyed (faux) innocence as to the brouhaha caused.

Not really to be honest. I think you can often tell from the tone of the post if they are 'genuinely interested' or being a GF. Some people really want to understand a poster's point but don't actually want a bunfight, because then any discussion is lost.

Yabu. I think they say it the way some people say light hearted it means I want to not get loads of abuse for asking a question

Someone asked a question about teachers the other day and said that, it was something I'd always been curious about and they got immediately jumped on. It was weird. The people who bothered to answer the question explained that the answer was quite obvious but I honestly don't think it was if you dont work in education. I'm the last person to abuse teachers and really respect them and I also wondered it
