New House Blues

Has anyone else felt this? Moved into my first owned home on Thursday and today I’ve just sat here feeling like I wish I had never done it!

I like the house, it just needs more decoration work to it than I remembered (last viewed towards the end of March), nothing wrong with the house. I just wish I was back in my cosy little flat!

Not sure if this is a usual feeling ... after spending all weekend unpacking, I’ve finally just sat down and the feeling has come on all of a sudden!

I think it's quite normal! I've always had a slump when the realisation of the amount of work hits but then you get started and it wears off. I also found it disconcerting to live in a house that smells 'wrong' but maybe that's just me 😬. Again, it's been temporary.

Congratulations on your new house!

Absolutely normal.

I felt like that for a good few weeks after we moved, give it time you’ll soon love your new home!

Thank you both. I feel a bit silly, and ungrateful as a lot of people helped me get here but I am sure I will begin to love the place when I put my own stamp on it 😊

We move on Tuesday and the mortgage account popped up on online banking on Friday as it's being drawn down for exchange. I had a swooping 'WTF are we doing moment', but then realised it'll take time to settle. Moving is one of the most stressful things you can do!

If you've moved from a 'cosy little flat' to a house with more space, you might need more 'stuff' to scatter around to make it look homelike - cushions, books, ornaments, framed pictures and photos, houseplants etc. But as pp have said, give it a few weeks and it'll soon feel like yours.

Oh yes. When we first moved into our house I really regretted it and hyper focused on things like road noise. Couple of weeks later I barely noticed it.

Yeh it’s a really strange feeling. I was homesick for our first house when we moved. You’ll soon settle in. Congratulations on being a homeowner!
