Anyone had a pre op appt recently?

Got a phone pre op appt next week. I'm wondering if I'll be given a date for surgery. Also what will they do about the pre op blood test? Do it on the day? Send me to my GP?

Not sure. They may try some nonsense about self isolating before surgery just nod and tick the box saying you'll do it

Gold standard is that: Pre-op should be done 2 weeks before your surgery date. so someone knows your surgery date even if you don't. Usually they can't be booked by the admin team without a date for surgery. The pre op is also only valid for 3 months. They'll likely take bloods on the day - group and save it's called, and an MRSA swab. Potentially a covid swab too depending on date of surgery, most hospitals are insisting on a 1-2 week isolation prior to admission for surgery plus covid swab 48 hours prior.

Hope that helps - if in doubt though call the consultant secretary and ask if there's a date yet for you.

Best of luck

Just re read more carefully and see it's a telephone appointment. Hmm may well send you to GP or just to the hospital phlebotomy clinic.

Yes, I had one Friday. Took about half an hour over the phone with general health questions but no blood test requested. I am due in surgery next Monday so I would imagine they could take one then if required.

I am self isolating and have been since last Monday and I have a Covid swab booked for next Saturday at the hospital - drive in, someone comes out, does the necessary and then I drive off again.

Thanks everyone, sounds like surgery could be soon then.

Good luck for your surgery Cobblers.
