Slight tweak to the suggestion, but here it is.

@Duckyneedsaclean

My council isn't opening playgrounds! Just absolute cunts (pardon my French). They also encouraged schools & nurseries not to open, causing my twins' nursery to backtrack and cancel opening.

I'm so pissed off with how children are basically canon fodder in this shitshow. Considering going down & hopping the fence..

So when half the local community cant go back to work and businesses fail what will they do then? If nurseries can't afford to stay shut and pay wages who will be there later in the year when councils decide they are actually needed after all? The short sightedness of people is staggering yet they are in charge of resources!
MaxNormal · 05/07/2020 16:46

@TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair what you say makes perfect sense and I completely agree with you and ibake
It's a tricky one to convey as people on certain threads can very easily twist it and make out we don't care but it's not that at all, of course each loss is a human tragedy, but yes if you look at it as a bigger picture then it's not that dreadful in terms of statistical significance and absolutely not a number we should be tanking our economy and wrecking our way of life for.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/07/2020 16:56

I started taking prozac again a week ago and it's odd but i just feel far less worried already about both what others think and about the situation itself

Which I know is one of the benefits of it but there we go. Feels a bit like I'm looking on at a world I'm not part of as much, like a kind of collective hysteria. I guess this is a good thing, but not sure.

Have also been doing some meditation and yoga. I recommend those.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/07/2020 16:58

Also generally things are pretty good are they not

Worldometer showing cases going down since last week
We have flattened the curve and NHS is coping
Economy may be recovering with a V shape apparently
Schools re-opeing.

There is much to be positive about

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 17:00

I love meditation and yoga but can't do them when I'm as anxious and twitchy as I am now.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/07/2020 17:07

I get that too Mascotte, sometimes walking or something aerobic can help me when i feel like that. Or swimming, which is best but of course can't do that recently.

Oh wow look even BBC have a positive one about an intensive care nurse out on the town, (and no guilt tripping and dementing involved) go BBC! Smile

Kathryn says: "Life is about having fun and we've all realised the importance of human interaction from a mental health point of view."
As Dan put it: "To be with everyone else, in such a special atmosphere, makes me feel really happy knowing what we have done has made a real difference."

thenightsky · 05/07/2020 17:11

A couple of my elderly neighbours have just been out to clap. Apparently there was meant to be a 5pm clapping session. I went out when I heard them, but didn't hang about too long. The wind is wild!

iamapixie · 05/07/2020 17:20

Went out for dinner last night. Lovely!
I do nevertheless have some concerns with the order in which things have been opened. Any responsible society would have started to sort education as soon as the Nightingales were built and looked at Non-Covid healthcare and emergency dentistry. Then really the logical thing considering how much Covid has shone a light on how unhealthy we are as a nation would have been to look at sport/playgrounds etc.
Still, my concerns were put aside because I... Gasp... Risk assessed: well off, very healthy population, people have been responsible throughout lockdown, and it is important to me that local businesses survive.
I'm sure my dementor exfriend would scream, but I've blocked her so I don't care.

Nihiloxica · 05/07/2020 17:34

I don't really care what order things open as long as they open.

Schools should have been back months ago, but I don't want the fact that they weren't used as a pretext for continuing to keep people apart.

It is maddening and insulting that playgrounds are still shut (which they are here).

Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 17:40

I know what you mean iamapixie

I did feel things were not quite right when we were queueing for Primark last Sunday but couldn't go in the church on the other side of the square.

I'm not a regular church goer but I do think the Archbishop of Canterbury dropped an enormous bollock shutting the churches and stopping services. At a time like this! And let's face it many congregations have churches so large they could easily sit miles apart.

I have a family member who is a priest and she says she was told she couldn't even go in her church by herself. Obviously she ignored that. Utter frigging nonsense. I thought Welby had more guts but nope, apparently not.

Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 17:46

Oh my god. Theres a thread in chat started by someone who fancies Matt Hancock!!!!!

People aren't sympathetic 🤣

Teateaandmoretea · 05/07/2020 17:51

@Allflightscancelled 😂😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Nihiloxica · 05/07/2020 17:53

Someone post the Wanksock meme!

Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 18:01

Oh yes please do post it. I can't find it. Aaaaargh!!!!!

110APiccadilly · 05/07/2020 18:02

On homeschooling. I was homeschooled. It was my mum's full time job (although I do have a couple of siblings). And we had a cleaner! And of course she had time to prepare, home school groups, sports clubs and orchestras and Brownies and so on to take us to. The idea that working parents can suddenly deliver home education at the drop of a hat is utterly ridiculous.

I am a regular churchgoer and am properly hacked off with ++ Canterbury. It’s not the business of the church to be cheerleaders for the Government, and churches closed even before Johnson announced the lockdown. Clergy were indeed told they couldn’t go in their churches even alone, although some dioceses just ignored that! And the national church has been invisible through this (though our own parish has been awesome, and I’m really impressed with how hard the vicar has worked to support people).
Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 18:05

professor it's absolutely shameful.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/07/2020 18:07

Particularly as you say, proper homeschooling involves clubs and actually going out Hmm. This fact alone has baffled me during lockdown that staying in the house doing worksheets is ‘homeschooling’ erm no, I don’t think so....!

Another weekend nearly over. My Mum came to stay this weekend. The kids love it. I drink too much. But she's on her way home now and we will visit in August

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 18:09

110a spot on, although I'd like to note that it's generally not fathers who are being castigated for not delivering this top notch home schooling whilst simultaneously trying to work, get some supplies in and often ensure that elderly relatives are being looked after.

If teaching is so flipping easy, I do wonder why people go to the bother of attending teacher training and getting a qualification enabling them to do it.

My Mum came this week. It was so good to see her. I found not knowing when so would see her again very difficult. It felt so unnatural. I suppose it was.

I also drink too much. But I can live with that for now.

Glad you had a nice weekend. Hope your husband is being less of a Malaka.

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 18:14

Anyway I'm in a good mood as we went out to Longniddry Bents in the gale force wind and enjoyed fish and chips.

The only discernible differences to pre-c days was a wanky road sign announcing proudly that the toilets were shut, and the tables outside the mobile chippy weren't there so we had Xs to stand in whilst waiting.

Mind you it was so cold we had to eat in the car anyway. I was struggling to open the door whilst balancing my tray and cup of tea and the lady in the next car volunteered to hold it for me. If you're on this thread - Thank you - that small gesture absolutely made my day. Mind you I probably spoilt it somewhat by then coughing (mild cold definitely not covid).

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 05/07/2020 18:15

I failed at home schooling proper - just like I failed at everything else these last few months. Their father thinks books are weird and hoity-toity 🙄 so it could’ve been worse.

My dad’s taking them away for a few days in September. I see a reprieve!

BarkandCheese · 05/07/2020 18:18

Proper home Ed is absolutely nothing like what people have been forced into doing. Real home edders I know are rarely actually at home in normal times, it’s certainly not work sheets at the kitchen table while mum takes work calls.

I think going to the seaside today might have been a mistake, it was so windy the poor dog couldn’t actually walk properly and had to be carried down the prom. Even so it was totally normal, lots of people out, queues for ice cream and fish and chips.

Did someone want this?
