Meet the teacher whilst shielding

Hi all, hope you are keeping well. Just after some advice really - I have been shielding for the past 4 months because I have severe asthma, my 3 children have been also. Last the week the children’s junior school invited them to a meet the teacher event at school taking place this Monday. The event will be taking place outside and the children will be given the chance to meet their new teacher and do some activities, there are 30 children in each class. My question is - do you think I should let my children attend? Do you think this is safe for us as a family bearing in mind we have a lot of health issues between us. I think it is important that my children meet their new teacher and classmates but I don’t want to put their health at risk. Thanks in advance! 🙂

I think it depends on the number of cases in your area. Can you strip your child as soon as you get home and wash thief clothes and hose them down? I would take the risk as statistically the risk is low. Have a look at the ons data then decide.

As a shielder, I would say no.

I also think that this breaks the guidelines.

As a teacher, no.

Can they arrange a chat with your child via zoom or similar, or a phone call to introduce themselves?

Are they moving to a new school? Different class within the school? Will their classmates be different? I would hope the school could plan something to help you in this instance, mine certainly would go out of their way to support.
