Coffee

I'm really missing my regular Costa latte... how many coffees are you supposed to limit yourself to each day? I try not to drink it during the week but if I do it's granulated and I make it very weak, Costa would be a lot stronger

I drink 2-3 a day every day. And that's nespresso.

Coffee does have health Benefits. Just cut the sugar and tonnes of milk if you can.

I bought myself an espresso machine few weeks back and it's my favourite thing at the moment. I treat myself to lovely beans, grind them each morning, and practice making latte, flat white, etc. I only drink soy milk so it's not like I'm guzzling 100s of calories. I make a few with real coffee and a few with decaf. I don't feel as wired off this coffee as I used to off pods, I swear there's something 'extra' in those.

Weekdays i have one when I get up at 6:30. One at 8 when i get to work with a chat in the kitchen. 10:30 i make another one but rarely drink it but make one just to get a break. Cup of tea at 3 if i gave the tine and anothe tea before bed if not wine.

Weekend i have 2 in the morning then no more. My routine is different.

I drink about 4/6 cups of strong coffee every day, either from my pod machine, or ground coffee done in a bialetti or press.

No ill effects here.

I really wouldn't worry about your caffeine intake, Costa coffee isn't that strong, but if you are not used to strong coffee I'd limit it to maybe 2/3 cups a day, otherwise you might end up with a few minor side effects (racing heart, needing to wee a lot, shakey hands. I get these if I go up to 7+ cups )

BillywigSting · 04/07/2020 08:41

I also only drink it with a splash of milk or black, so I'm not drinking all of my calories for the day. Though I probably get through half a pint of milk with the number of cups I drink.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/07/2020 09:02

I only have one a day because I don't like strong coffee, I only like lattes and they're calorific.

wheresmymojo · 04/07/2020 09:22

I limit myself to one a day - not because of the caffeine but because of the calories in the milk.

I decided not to get a coffee machine for this reason - it would be far too easy to end up having several a day!

Instead I got a stovetop Mokapot and do my frothy warm milk in my Hotel Chocolat velvetiser. Even if you bought both it's still £££ less than a coffee machine.

Thanks everyone
I didn't know it was the milk that was a problem and not the caffeine! I like soya milk but only a little in an Americano, I find it tastes a bit weird in a latte

@thenewaveragebear1983 I'm the same with pods!! We've got a Tassimo at work and I used to drink the costa americano pods. I felt like I was on crack on night shift I made sure I only had the one haha.

@BillywigSting thanks for the reassurance, I normally have one coffee when I start work at 8 then a cup of tea in the afternoon. I was worried about drinking ground coffee but it's my favourite, I've got loads of coffee bags that I haven't used because I was concerned I couldn't drink them. I don't really like decaf so it's put my mind at ease :)

If (rare ) I do buy a coffee it's always Nero Americano.
At home and work I use either Tescos own French style number 5 or Whittards Guatemalan elephant. Made strong in a cafetiere.
Usually about 4 a day but I don't set myself a limit , if I want more I will have more.

AlCalavicci · 04/07/2020 09:33

Oh I should add that it's always black and no sugar.

Mamette · 04/07/2020 09:36

I drink 2 mugs of filter coffee every day, made with 3 tablespoons of Bewley’s Java. So 3 cups I suppose, technically. I used to put 4 tablespoons in but since I stopped taking milk I’ve started making it a bit weaker.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/07/2020 09:37

@L4uz I know! Dh says I'm imagining it but I reckon there is something chemical in those pods. My machine is stronger coffee but it's not nearly as 'buzzy' feeling
