Root Canal

Anyone had a root canal before? I'm having one tomorrow and I'm so nervous, had a friend who spent about half an hour on Wednesday telling me how awful and painful hers was which wasn't helpful!

I lost part of a filling early on in lockdown which has lead to needing the root canal and last weekend it became infected and spread to my sinuses which was hell so I desperately want/need it done tomorrow but my friend has terrified me!!!

Any good stories out there?! Will I need lots of painkillers after?

Totally agree with all the others. Long yes, painful no. You'll be fine Flowers

Ive had two

One without anaesthetic and one with

Quite obviously the one with anaesthetic was much less painful ..the painful thing is the little jab Which goes very quickly

Though i did get a bit of jaw ache by trying to keep my mouth open as long as possible 😀

@Allywill £700 for this one, makes me want to cry! It's at a private dentist though like yours was because my NHS dentist doesn't have the correct PPE.

All done and back home!

It was actually fine and completely painless but I think it might be a bit sore once the anaesthetic wears off, so I'm just off to the chemist to get some stronger painkillers. I couldn't believe how relaxed it was though and he even numbed my gum before he injected me!

Thanks again everyone x

Thanks for the update and I'm glad it all went ok OP.

I had one last year, I was absolutely terrified and had avoided dentists for years because I'd got myself so worked up about the fear...and it was absolutely fine! Not painful at all, the numbness was worse than any discomfort I felt, and that wasn't a major issue in itself, just a really weird feeling because I didn't realise just how much of my face would actually go numb! I can't believe I'd chosen to suffer toothache for so long beforehand, it was so much less painful/stressful that I ever imagined.

Oops, should have checked through to the end before posting, glad it was all ok OP!

Glad it was ok. It has actually helped me at the dentist going forward - I reckoned if I could cope with root canal I can cope with anything! So I am a more relaxed patient now!
