I got home from work yesterday to a cath kidtson Package on the stairs. Excitedly opened it Thinking it was a gift for me from my dh, and it was a single over glove. Anyway, his does that work? Why didnt it come in a pair? How do you actually take hot dishes out of the oven with onky one glove?! Im so confused...

You just lift things with one hand Confused.

I have a pair of very thick gloves but usually just put my hand in one unless I'm lifting something very heavy out of the oven.

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/07/2020 11:08

I thought the idea was you bought two.

You just lift things with one hand i dont think i have the upper body strength to lift casserole dishes out of the over with one hand.

God that makes them expensive open gloves Shock

No I wouldn't be able to lift a casserole dish one handed either!

But I just need one hand to lift out a lightweight oven tray or lift a pan off the top where the handle might be a bit hot.

Tbh I prefer a thick tea towel to gloves anyway!

TedsFederationRep · 03/07/2020 11:14

I always wear two oven gloves although I generally take out the trays or dishes with just one hand.

The second glove is simply because if the dish starts to wobble or slip, what would be the instinctive reaction?

AngusThermopyle · 03/07/2020 11:15

I have steel pans, and the handles get really hot so i use my one oven glove for holding them.

MushyPeasAreTheDevilsFood · 03/07/2020 11:19

It seems such a strange thing to sell, just the one glove. Ok so it will just need a bit of adjustment, and more push ups... Grin

I have wrist problems, I couldn't lift a pan full of potatoes and water with just one hand, even an oven tray with something really light on it wobbles frantically and then gets slammed down before I drop it if I try to take it out one handed.
I have Le Crueset oven mits, they come in pairs and are excellent.

WinstonWolf · 05/07/2020 15:32

Where did you get your paired Le Creuset Oven Mitts from @Qwicky? I can only find them sold as singles.

Pipandmum · 05/07/2020 15:34

Well they sell them singly. If you want two, you order two. This is not difficult.

Saxineno · 05/07/2020 15:34

I have two type of glove. One that's a long strip with a handle in with her e end for very heavy casseroles, and a single over glove when I'm just grabbing a tray of oven chips out.

longtompot · 05/07/2020 16:02

I have a pair of oven gloves for getting things out of the oven and a single one for hot pan handles and picking up the kettle from the hob.

dementedpixie · 05/07/2020 16:03

I also have a single and a double. Single for light trays and double for heavier dishes

Moonshinemisses · 05/07/2020 16:29

Order two?. Or do as the gloveless do & fold up a tea towel

This is why I've always stuck with pairs even for light stuff. I don't have such a high opinion of myself that I think I can deactivate my reflexes Grin

I have a big stack of these, so they can be washed often - use one for light things and two for heavy things.

I hate the tweeness of oven gloves and struggle to maintain my image by using a tea towel. Although I do have to admit that the cast iron pot defeats me and I have to weaken in the direction of a pair of oven gloves with cute dogs on...
