When does a child “cease full time education?”

When I got divorced the financial agreement was that ex would pay maintenance until my DS “ceased full time education.” He would have done A’levels this year and is hoping to go to university in September. Now I know that maintenance to me will stop when DS is away and that (hopefully) ex will give DS money directly, but what I don’t know is when “full time education” stops...
Is it the last day of the school term or is it the end of August? I was under the impression that the school year officially finishes in August so I should keep receiving maintenance until then. After all, DS is still going to need feeding until he goes to University!
Any ideas?

Ah I think it means school/6th form doesn't it ? You might need to get a new agreement to include further/ higher education, one of my friends was almost caught out by this her ex didn't want to contribute to university.

And he needs to contribute over the summer

I would assume at the same time child benefit stops, which is in the August following a child leaving FT education.

He should continue paying until your child benefit ends

Does FT education not include university?

ItWasntMyFault · 03/07/2020 10:32

When child benefit stops in August

Woodlandtree · 03/07/2020 10:34

DD1s child benefit ends as of 7th September (She’s just finished 6th form) so to me that’s the end of full time education.

Mrsjayy · 03/07/2020 10:35

Yes child benefit ends in September.

Thank you for your responses. A friend had mentioned that it should go on until child benefit stopped too. Glad to hear that others think that too! Now to start the conversation with ex... Could be interesting!

DH paid until DSS went to Uni and then the money transferred over to him.

HollysBush · 03/07/2020 11:16

University counts as further education as it’s not mandatory.

In Ireland it is when all education stops so basically when they have gotten their degree.
