How many bottles of fizz for 9 people

Depending on Nicolas announcement nexr Thurs hopefully our wedding will go ahead and we'll have a small get together in my MIL garden. Technically going against rules but for one (special) day we're putting rules to one side.
Anyway that's not the point of this post.
Im putting in an order for fizz and have no clue how many bottles to buy. There will be 9 adults, 6 will probably only have one glass as a toast and the other 3 will move on to gin later in the evening. Is 4 about right?

My daughter supplied her own champagne at her wedding , just paid corkage, and got through sixty bottles for seventy people. Almost a bottle each.

Ohjustme · 02/07/2020 20:02

How i wish there was a edit button, should've mentioned 1 adult is driving and the other doesn't really drink at all, so more like 7 adults.

Get extra and put a few bottles aside in storage - open a bottle on your first wedding anniversary, and your tenth, and so on - I really wish I'd saved some of 'our' wedding champagne

If you run out it will look very poor..seriously go for at least 6 bottles of fizz minimum, how many bottles of gin and mixer will you have?

Ninkanink · 02/07/2020 20:08

Well you clearly think a bottle each is way too much.

So get 3 bottles. One glass for everyone and just don’t worry about refills. Or 4. Which rather renders this thread redundant, doesn’t it.

Ninkanink · 02/07/2020 20:09

Also good luck and I hope you get to get married and it all goes swimmingly on the day! Flowers We got married just before lockdown, got in there just in time!

Tigger001 · 02/07/2020 20:09

If your guest don't like fizz or are driving, why are you pondering over quantities, surely it's just 2 bottles for the toast and no other option.

Or However many people you say will drink it buy a bottle for them and then have the awkwardness of running out if God forbid other people change their minds and decide to change their drink and fancy sone bubbles for a special occasion

Ohjustme · 02/07/2020 20:12

@backseatcookers im not getting it for everyone but they've all said they'd like a glass for a toast. There will be gin and beers also.
@saltycat its parents, siblings and their parents and neices only so id hope none of them would nick anything! Good idea about getting a supplier - ill look into that.
@tillytoodles1 its in my PILs garden so thankfully don't need to worry about corkage.
@fuzzywuzzyface im thinking 2 flavoured bottles of gin liqueur and probably 2 bottles of gin. So people can have different flavours but stick to the same spirit. And then lots of beers. And plenty mixers. Ill probably get a lot more mixers than i think ill need.

Ohjustme · 02/07/2020 20:15

That should have said siblings and their partners.

@Ninkanink thanks! Im still not convinced its going to go ahead. I dont think the numbers will be increased enough for us.

Xmasbaby11 · 02/07/2020 20:15

At least 6. Just don't open them if you don't need to.

jackdaw141 · 02/07/2020 20:16

Champagne is over indulged, especially in the U.K.

Four bottles will be plenty. Just get good quality and savour it.

saltycat · 02/07/2020 20:17

OP, I was just kidding about the nicking of the grog, honest!

Getting a supplier for all the stuff required worked great for our friends, and they returned the leftover unopened bottles they didn't need. They kept a few for other occasions. Worked well.

All the best and I can't help feeling excited to see things like small gatherings like weddings etc. happening again, hopefully. It gives me a lift anyway!

Ginkypig · 02/07/2020 20:19

@Ohjustme

But why one bottle per person when the majority are only having one glass. There will be plenty gin and beers as well.
Well only get what you want then.

As long as there is enough to for the toast.

Ohjustme · 02/07/2020 20:35

@saltycat everything has gone so smoothly and stress free. We only got engaged in January but because we've been together so long we just decided to do it quickly! No one knows in real life apart from our immediate family. So I've not even been able to wear my engagement ring! Desperate for it to happen!

I was going to say 15-20 but I love champagne and would not move onto another drink...

Better to have more and keep it then run out..

Nosuchluck · 02/07/2020 20:44

If it was for my friend's is get 18 bottles but from what you've said I'd get 6.

Wishforsnow · 02/07/2020 20:55

I would get a least 6, have a great day

Spottybluepyjamas · 02/07/2020 20:57

I'd get 10 minimum

ILikeyourHairyHands · 02/07/2020 20:58

Just get a case, any leftovers can be used another time plus you usually get case discounts.

RNBrie · 02/07/2020 21:03

When I got married, caterers told us half a bottle per person. I didn't believe them and ordered a bottle per person. We had more than half of it left over!

I think you will be fine with 4 or 5.

Danni91 · 02/07/2020 21:16

Champagne or prossecco?

Id myself go for 1 bottle per person and a couple extra regardless like others have said but since you dont seem keen maybe 6?

If you are planning on only the toast before going to gin i would question is it worth it?

If no one actually wants it or likes it cant you toast with gin and start as you mean to go on? Grin you could buy an extra bottle of gin or 2 or 3 with the money instead!

I myself would give tequila shots and margaritas out for mine! Smile

Ohjustme · 02/07/2020 21:28

@Danni91oooh now theres a thought!! I do love a margarita!

OP posts:
TFSRM · 02/07/2020 21:31

I must be stingy because going on your description of who is going to drink I would say 3 bottles.

Thisismytimetoshine · 02/07/2020 21:32

Well, most people think one bottle per person, it doesn't have to be opened if it's not being drunk.
But you disagree with that, so 🤷🏻‍♀️ However many you choose. Awful if you ran out, though. I wouldn't risk it.

gardenchaos · 02/07/2020 21:38

If you're using standard size champagne flutes (125ml) you'll get six flutes per bottle. I work on five flutes to allow overfill and overspill! Hope this helps.
