What’s up with my grin?

Posting pic, I know there’s not much to look at! On that one point where you can see the vein/blood vessel/whatever it is really hurts. It hurts to walk on and when I’ve been walking for a while the skin around it comes up red. It’s pretty painful but also slightly itchy. No injury to ankle but did step on a plug last week on that leg. Doctor thinks it’s a sprain and that it looks bruised. Just think it’s odd that just that bit hurts and quite a bit tbh, seems to be getting worse. Anyone got any other ideas? I’m worried the vein is damaged or something. Thanks. (Ps posting for traffic, I did post on AIBU)

Could it be thrombophlebitis?

Oh sorry! I didn’t even notice that!

Thrombophlebitis does not sound good. I don’t know what to do

So you would rather random people on the internet diagnose you from a photo than listen to your GP. Makes sense - your lips definitely are very thin and I can't see your teeth.

Not diagnose but maybe someone else might have had this. My mum died from a blood clot when I was a child so I am very paranoid about anything to do with veins. My GP didn’t see me by the way and the phone call lasted less than two minutes. I felt she was very dismissive.

Strangely, I’ve recently experienced something similar in the same place. It started with a kind of scratchy pain/itching that got worse when I walked on it, and I couldn’t work out what I’d done - I thought that maybe I had knocked it without realising. I then stupidly decided to run 5k, but had to stop at 4K because it was hurting, and limped home. My whole ankle then swelled up and hurt a lot there for a few weeks, and I could initially barely walk on it. It finally seemed okay about 3 weeks later and I’ve managed to run some shorter distances over the past few weeks.

The only thing that really seemed to help was putting ice packs on it, which reduced the swelling and pain a bit, although not the itching.

Sorry, this isn’t much help to you but I am still puzzled by what caused it, so was surprised to see someone with something similar!

No that’s actually reassuring @LivingInTheBackOfBeyond because I have all sorts going through my mind! I haven’t injured it at all! Is it feeling back to normal now?

It’s pretty much back to normal now, except for occasional twinges.
