What time does your baby wake?

I'm jealous of these people who have a 7 pm - 7 am sleeping babies. However, mine (7mo) does 6.30/7 pm until 4/4.30 am sometimes 5 am. It isn't a huge problem and I'll be getting up that time when I start work but ideally I'd like him to sleep a little longer in the mornings. He doesn't wake in the night though so I'm lucky in that respect and sometimes I can settle him back to sleep but only usually on me. Are most babies early risers? Sorry if that's a stupid question.

My 8 month old wakes between 5 and 6am but the needs a very early nap at 7.30/8 ish. He also wakes for a breastfeed at around 2am. His bedtime is around 7.30pm. Does your LO wake happy, when mine wakes happy and babbling I get him up. If he wakes crying I try to resettle him.

Ok that's good to know then. Yes he nearly always wakes happy. I let him wake up properly so he has some time babbling alone (he has only just gone into his own room) to get used to being in there by himself. Then I give him a bottle some play time then back to sleep for a nap or breakfast then a nap depending on his mood.

Could you try pushing bedtime back to say 7:30 and see if that makes a difference?
How much does he have during day time naps?

He won't make it until 7.30 pm. I can get morning and early afternoon naps in but he just won't nap in the late afternoon atm. He just looks at me as if I'm mad. He has up to an hour. Sometimes more and usually two naps sometimes three depending on how long those naps were.

Not a baby (nearly 2), but DD has always been an early riser! This time last year she was waking at 5./5.30. Now, she wakes most days around 6am on average after going to sleep at 7.30pm. We do get the odd 5.45am wake up though! She always sleeps through. A later bedtime bizarrely leads to an earlier wake up. If we get the odd day where she doesn't nap, she'll sleep til 6.15 or 6.30 at an absolute push. She definitely doesn't need more sleep, as she's wide awake at that time! Sorry that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but she just isn't one to sleep until 7. We've tried every trick in the book!

That must just be how he is then. I'm ok with it. As I said when I go back to work I will start at 5.30 am so will be getting up about 4.45 am anyway.

Have you got black out blinds so room stays dark when it begins to get light?

Bluebellpainting · 02/07/2020 09:25

I have an 8 month old. He rises anywhere between 5.30 and 7am- with no rhyme or reason to it. Bedtime is between 7 and 7.30pm. Sometimes if wake up is closer to 5 than 6 I get him back down after a feed. One of my friends with a similar age baby her son is awake at 4.30 every morning no matter what she does- I think some are just early risers. We do the 2-3-4 day for naps and seems to work well for him when he does get up after 6.30 but if it is before then the day is a bit tougher.

BonestoBones · 02/07/2020 09:35

I have black out curtains and will be investing in shutters for his window (windows are low in our house so needed for safety!). I do leave his door open so I can hear him and I have a window on our landing so his room naturally lightens. Will try make the hall darker tonight to see if that changes anything.

@Bluebellpaitining sorry what is 2-3-4 nap? I'm guessing wake up 2 hours then nap, 3 hours then nap, 4 hours bed?

Yes that’s it. So this morning he was up at 7 so when down for his nap at 9. He will be up around 10 so next nap will be around 1. He has a longer afternoon nap so will be awake about 3 so bedtime will be 7. It seems to work well with him. I know others who aren’t big fans of it but he sort of fell into the pattern around 7 months. He dropped to 2 naps at 6 months but had a tough few weeks until I found this which worked for him.

My 7 month old wakes at 5.30am & is usually asleep by 6.30pm. She still wakes 2-3 times a night too. I know I should try & shift everything a bit later but not sure how!

Camomila · 02/07/2020 10:18

Mine usually wakes for a feed around 11pm and then sleeps through till 7.30am when his big brother wakes up. Occasionally wakes for an extra feed if its really warm.

He's 5m and doesn't have a proper bedtime routine yet though, so he usually falls asleep for the night around 8.30ish pm

bloodywhitecat · 02/07/2020 10:21

My almost 8 month old wakes at around 6.30/7am now he is in his own room with every chink of light cut out and white noise playing, he goes down at 6.30/6.45pm.
