Covers or re-makes you didn't expect to like, but loved

Jeremy Brett was the perfect Sherlock, but Benedict Cumberbatch did a brilliant job.

Simon & Garfunkel were the only people to sing Bridge Over Troubled Water, but

The Beatles' by Gregory Porter was a lovely surprise

and Simon & Garfunkel's was over the top gorgeous

Is there film or song that you liked the first time round, but now love now it's been redone?

Ghostbusters. Better than the original

BirthdayCakeFlavour · 01/07/2020 21:47

Matt Kearney's acoustic Dancing in the Dark. Not the sacrilege I thought.

FranKubelik · 01/07/2020 21:47

Jeff Buckley’s cover of Hallelujah. I hadn’t thought Leonard Cohen’s original could be even better.

7ofNine · 01/07/2020 21:48

Futureheads version of Hounds of Love is amazing
Pet Shop Boys Always on My Mind
Jimi Hendrix All Along the Watchtower
The Killers Romeo and Juliet

Basil Rathbone was the best Sherlock Holmes- Jeremy Brett was a remake!

Doje · 01/07/2020 21:48

Bellini got there before I did. The Ghostbusters remake is brilliant!

totallyyesno · 01/07/2020 21:50

A Star is Born. I love the Judy Garland version but also loved the latest one.

MondeoFan · 01/07/2020 21:50

@7ofnine
I was about to come on and say Futureheads too such a fab cover.

I like I drove all night by Cyndi Lauder as opposed to Roy Orbison version

itwilldropoff · 01/07/2020 21:52

The one that jumped straight into my head was the Disturbed cover, they’re not normally my kind of band but I LOVE that cover so bloody much

Gingernaut · 01/07/2020 21:52

Ghostbusters? The 2016 remake? Are you trolling???

sandyposy · 01/07/2020 21:52

Weezer’s version of Toto’s Africa

7ofNine · 01/07/2020 21:53

Maybe they mean Xentrix covering the Ghostbusters theme tune?

Gingernaut · 01/07/2020 21:54

Another Leonard Cohen track by Madeleine Peyroux.

Creepy tone, with a voice reminiscent of Billie Halliday.

Stand by my love of the Ghostbusters reboot.
Very funny [whisper it] women in it .

Missillusioned · 03/07/2020 18:04

Tainted Love by Marilyn Manson

Violetroselily · 03/07/2020 18:06

John Mayer's version of XO

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/07/2020 18:09

Kate Rusby, The Village Green Preservation Society. Loved it. Which is good because her version of Manic Monday is bloody awful Grin

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/07/2020 18:19

I do like that Disturbed cover but I can’t ever watch the video. Bit too Tenacious D for me Grin

Mornington3303 · 03/07/2020 18:24

Sophie Ellis Bextor's cover of New Order's True Faith is surprisingly good.

Crunchymum · 03/07/2020 18:43

Prefer Paloma Faith's rendition of "Never Tear Us Apart"

Quite like the Ghostbusters remake but it isn't better per se. Just different and enjoyable in a different way.

I love The Killers but their version of Romeo and Juliet doesn't come close to Dire Straits.

Wagsandclaws · 03/07/2020 18:45

I liked the new Ghostbusters too, and the new Pet Semetary.

Tainted Love by Marilyn Manson
Yes!! Also personal jesus
IndieTara · 03/07/2020 18:52

@7ofnine
Romeo and Juliet is my favourite song ever but I never knew the Killers covered it. Just had a listen and... it's ok but I'm not sure. Brandon's voice sounds a bit reedy

endlessginandtonic · 03/07/2020 18:56

DC have watched all the ghostbusters films, they think the last one is by far the best.
